Myocardial perfusion assessment with contrast echocardiography has been studied for more than 25 years. It is a feasible and safe technique. Rather it has an additional value in pharmacologic stress test remains unclear. However, with adequate settings (using both low and very low mechanical index), perfusion analysis can be very useful for the diagnosis of apical thrombus or tumor, viability assessment, and acute coronary syndrome with non-informative ECG.

Introduction: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a chronic systemic degenerative disease affecting small blood vessels in the brain, leading to cognitive impairments. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that applies low electrical currents to the scalp, shows promise in treating cognitive and movement disorders. However, further clinical evaluation is required to assess the long-term effects of tDCS on neuroplasticity and gait in patients with CSVD.

Objective: To examine the role of noninvasive testing (NIT) before invasive coronary angiography (ICA) by evaluating the association between a positive myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) or computed tomography angiography (CTA) result and the decision to perform coronary revascularization.

Patients And Methods: We screened all patients who received ICA between August 1, 2015, and July 31, 2019, and identified those who received MPI or CTA within the preceding 12 months. We considered MPI to be a positive result if it found moderate or severe ischemia in a specific coronary territory and CTA to be a positive result if it identified a stenosis greater than 50% in any major coronary artery.

Ischemic stroke is one of the major emergency diseases leading to death and disability worldwide, characterized by its acute onset and the urgent need for prompt medical intervention to reduce mortality and long-term disability. Chronic terminal internal carotid artery and/or middle cerebral artery occlusion (CTI/MCAO) is an important subtype of intracranial artery occlusive disease. The superficial temporal artery-to-MCA (STA-MCA) bypass has been proposed to improve cerebral blood flow (CBF) and cerebrovascular reserve (CVR), potentially enhancing neurological outcomes.

Comparing myocardial perfusion scan findings in patients with and without Covid-19.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

January 2025

Liver and Digestive Research Center, Research Institute for Health Development, Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, Sanandaj, Iran.

Background: Covid-19 is a pandemic viral disease that directly or indirectly affects multiple organ systems, including the cardiovascular system. SPECT GATED MPI is a non-invasive nuclear imaging modality used to assess myocardial perfusion and function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Covid-19 pandemic on myocardial perfusion imaging in ischemic heart disease.

Early-phase F-Flortaucipir tau-PET as a proxy of brain metabolism in Alzheimer's disease: a comparison with F-FDG-PET and early-phase amyloid-PET.

Eur J Nucl Med Mol Imaging

January 2025

Laboratory of Neuroimaging and Innovative Molecular Tracers (NIMTlab), Geneva University Neurocenter and Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland.

Purpose: As dual-phase amyloid-PET can evaluate amyloid (A) and neurodegeneration (N) with a single tracer injection, dual-phase tau-PET might be able to provide both tau (T) and N. Our study aims to assess the association of early-phase tau-PET scans and F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET and their comparability in discriminating Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and differentiating neurodegenerative patterns.

Methods: 58 subjects evaluated at the Geneva Memory Center underwent dual-phase F-Flortaucipir-PET with early-phase acquisition (eTAU) and F-FDG-PET within 1 year.
