Missing person identification typically involves genetic matching of a person of interest against relatives of the missing person. In cases with few available relatives, exhumations or other substantial efforts may be necessary in order to secure adequate statistical power. We propose a simulation approach for solving prioritisation problems arising in such cases. Conditioning on the already typed individuals we estimate the power of each alternative, both to detect the true person, and to exclude false candidates. Graphical summaries of the simulations are given in complementary power plots, facilitating interpretation and decision making. Through a series of examples originating from the well-known Missing grandchildren of Argentina we demonstrate that our method may untangle complex prioritisation problems and other power-related questions. In particular we offer novel insights in recent cases where only children of the potential match are available for testing. We also show that X-chromosomal markers may give high statistical power in missing person identification, but that this requires careful selection of relatives for genotyping. Preoperative detection of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) remains a great challenge in practice. We aimed to develop and validate a deep Vesical Imaging Network (ViNet) model for the detection of MIBC using high-resolution Tweighted MR imaging (hrTWI) in a multicenter cohort. ViNet was designed using a modified 3D ResNet, in which, the encoder layers were pretrained using a self-supervised foundation model on over 40,000 cross-modal imaging datasets for transfer learning, and the classification modules were weakly supervised by an experiential knowledge-domain mask indicated by a nnUNet segmentation model.

Background: Ischemic stroke affects 15 million people worldwide, causing five million deaths annually. Despite declining mortality rates, stroke incidence and readmission risks remain high, highlighting the need for preventing readmission to improve the quality of life of survivors. This study developed a machine-learning model to predict 90-day stroke readmission using electronic medical records converted to the common data model (CDM) from the Regional Accountable Care Hospital in Gangwon state in South Korea.

Purpose: This work aims at investigating, via in-silico evaluations, the noise properties of an innovative scanning geometry in cone-beam CT (CBCT): eCT. This scanning geometry substitutes each of the projections in CBCT with a series of collimated projections acquired over an oscillating scanning trajectory.
