A major site of impaired fertility in men with autoimmunity to sperm rests at the level of restricted sperm entry and motion within cervical mucus. We studied the effects of a protease derived from Neisseria gonorrhoeae, whose substrate specificity is limited to human IgA1, on the ability of antibody-bound sperm to penetrate human cervical mucus in vitro. IgA on the sperm surface, but not IgG, was degraded by IgA1 protease. A correlation was seen between the levels of IgA bound relative to IgG and the improvement in sperm cervical mucus penetrating ability after IgA1 protease exposure. These results provide evidence that antisperm autoantibodies of both IgA and IgG classes impair the ability of spermatozoa to populate the female reproductive tract. They implicate the Fc region of the immunoglobulin molecule in mediating this effect and offer the potential to restore male fertility by treating antibody-bound sperm in vitro with immunoglobulin-directed bacterial proteases, before insemination.

In the human airways, mucus is constantly secreted to capture inhaled microbes and pollutants and cleared away through concerted ciliary motion. Many important respiratory diseases exhibit altered mucus flowability and impaired clearance, contributing to respiratory distress and increased risk of infections.

Objective: This study aims to demonstrate that the EN2 protein in cervical mucus may serve as a novel biomarker for screening endometrial cancer.
Materials And Methods: This study included 133 patients who were treated at Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. According to the pathological results of hysteroscopy endometrial biopsy, the patients were divided into endometrial cancer group (n = 55), endometrial atypical hyperplasia group (n = 16), benign lesion group (n = 28), and control group (n = 34).

Objective: The objective was to develop a manually operatable, non-electric device to measure salivary spinnbarkeit for research, clinical and educational purposes.
Materials And Methods: A newly developed device, named the Kamranmeter, was built and evaluated in a pilot study, comparing the spinnbarkeit of unstimulated and chew-stimulated saliva samples from healthy volunteers. The Neva Meter, which operates on electrical resistance, was used as a reference standard.
