Nanosensor for Fe(II) and Fe(III) Allowing Spatiotemporal Sensing .

Nano Lett

January 2025

Disruptive & Sustainable Technologies for Agricultural Precision IRG, Singapore-MIT Alliance of Research and Technology, 1 CREATE Way, #03-06, Singapore 138602, Singapore.

Fluorescent nanosensors operating have shown recent success toward informing basic plant biology and agricultural applications. We developed near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent nanosensors using the Corona Phase Molecular Recognition (CoPhMoRe) technique that distinguish Fe(II) and Fe(III) species with limit of detection as low as 10 nM. An anionic poly(p-phenyleneethynylene) (PPE) polyelectrolyte wrapped single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) shows up to 200% turn-on and 85% turn-off responses to Fe(II) and Fe(III), respectively, allowing spatial and temporal analysis of iron uptake in both foliar and root-to-shoot pathways.

Urban pandemic governance personal protective equipment allocation strategies: a system dynamics simulation.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction, Sichuan University, No. 122, Section 1, Huanghe Middle Road, Chengdu, 610211, China.

In the early days of the urban pandemic, many cities had personal protective equipment (PPE) shortages, which adversely affected urban pandemic governance. Using the COVID-19 strategies employed in Wuhan as the pivotal case study, this study sought to determine effective strategies to optimize city PPE distribution. System dynamics modeling was employed to explore the influence of PPE allocation strategies on pandemic control measures.

Encapsulation of walnut husk and pomegranate peel extracts by alginate and chitosan-coated nanoemulsions.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Department of Food and Agricultural Products, Food Technology and Agricultural Products Research Center, Standard Research Institute (SRI), PO Box 31745-139, Karaj, Iran.

Walnut husk extract (WHE) and pomegranate peel extract (PPE) were produced through ultrasound-assisted extraction. Total phenol, flavonoid and tannin contents (TPC, TFC and TTC), antioxidant and antimicrobial activities were determined. The best extracts were used for production of alginate (Alg) and chitosan (CS)-coated nanoemulsions containing WHE (NWHE) or PPE (NPPE).

Advancements in Public First Responder Programs for Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: An Updated Literature Review.

Rev Cardiovasc Med

January 2025

Department of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pain and Palliative Therapy, Asklepios Klinikum Harburg, 21075 Hamburg, Germany.

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a leading cause of death worldwide, with a low survival rate of around 7% globally. Key factors for improving survival include witnessed arrest, bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and early defibrillation. Despite guidelines advocating for the "chain of survival", bystander CPR and defibrillation rates remain suboptimal.

Nipah virus (NiV) is a zoonotic pathogen with the potential to cause human outbreaks with a high case fatality ratio. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, available evidence on NiV infections occurring in healthcare workers (HCWs) was collected and critically appraised. According to the PRISMA statement, four medical databases (PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, and Scopus) and the preprint repository medRixv were inquired through a specifically designed searching strategy.
