Hong Liu, a new species from Shaanxi, north-western China, is described and photographed. The new species belongs to Subgen. Gamosplenium Sect. Nephrophylloides Ser. Macrophylla and is most similar to and from which it differs by having a shorter stem, rhizome absent, basal leaf absent, sterile branch arising from the flowering stem and a light yellow flower with longer stamen. A global conservation assessment is performed and classifies as Endangered (EN).

Optimizing planting density enhances the multi-scale structural characteristics and in vitro digestibility of maize starch via modulating the size distribution of granules.

Int J Biol Macromol

September 2024

Key Laboratory of Crop Physio-ecology and Tillage Science in North-western Loess Plateau, College of Agronomy, Northwest A & F University, Yangling, Shaanxi, China. Electronic address:

The modification of starch through agricultural practices is becoming increasingly significant for producing healthy foodstuffs and raw materials for industrial applications, consequently gaining momentum in academic research. This study examined how three different planting densities influenced the distribution of granule sizes, multi-scale structural characteristics, and in vitro digestibility of maize starch. The results showed that planting density significantly enhanced grain yield and relative crystallinity, and significant increases were also observed in the contents of both rapidly and slowly digestible starch.

Background: Reserved arable lands in China is of great significance for rationally allocating crop planting structures, alleviating the pressure of grain imports, and protecting food security. Owing to data acquisition limitations, obtaining the spatial distribution of reserved arable lands at large spatial scales is relatively rare, and there is little information on predicting the suitability, production capacity, and ecological effects of crop cultivation in reserved arable lands. This study obtained the distribution of reserved arable lands in China by applying restrictive factors, and used the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) suitability index for eight crops to obtain a spatial distribution map of suitable crops, proposed a cropland ecological efficiency index (CEEI) to analyse the ecological impact of crop cultivation in reserved arable lands.

Charge trap materials that can store carriers efficiently and controllably are desired for memory applications. 2D materials are promising for highly compacted and reliable memory mainly due to their ease of constructing atomically uniform interfaces, however, remain unexplored as being charge trap media. Here it is discovered that 2D semiconducting PbI is an excellent charge trap material for nonvolatile memory and artificial synapses.
