Skeletal survey (SS) continues to be used in the community to detect bone disease in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). While the false-negative rate is high, the specificity of SS is less well characterised. Here, we compare the diagnostic accuracy of SS compared to F-FDG-PET/CT (positron emission tomography/computed tomography) in 79 patients referred to our tertiary centre with a diagnosis of smouldering MM. SS had a specificity of 83·1% (95% confidence interval: 72·0-90·5%). This study reinforces the importance of using more specific imaging techniques to avoid inaccurate diagnosis that could lead to the risks associated with unnecessary therapy in patients with smouldering MM.

Background: Radiographic skeletal survey plays an important role in the diagnosis of infant abuse. Some practitioners have expressed concerns about the radiation exposure from this examination.
Objective: To utilize state-of-the-art hybrid computational phantoms to more accurately estimate radiation doses of skeletal surveys performed for suspected infant abuse.

Age-related muscle wasting, sarcopenia is an extensive loss of muscle mass and strength with age and a major cause of disability and accidents in the elderly. Mechanisms purported to be involved in muscle ageing and sarcopenia are numerous but poorly understood, necessitating deeper study. Hence, we employed high-throughput RNA sequencing to survey the global changes in protein-coding gene expression occurring in skeletal muscle with age.

The aim of this study is to investigate the association between four phenotypes of sarcopenia/obesity in older individuals and functional disability, malnutrition, and all-cause mortality. This study is a cross-sectional study, survival is 3 years. A total of 487 Chinese older adults were included with 283 (58.

Objectives: In children admitted after an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), this study 1) determines the proportion that undergo: physical abuse and toxin exposure evaluation, child protection team (CPT) consultation, and child protective services (CPS) referral, and 2) evaluates the association between demographic, social, clinical characteristics with CPT consultation and CPS referral.
Methods: Retrospective chart review was conducted of children < 4 years old admitted following an OHCA between November 2012 and February 2023. Associations between demographics, caregiver social risk factors, and clinical characteristics with CPT consultation and CPS referral were examined using logistic regression.

Kenny-Caffey syndrome 2 (KCS2) is a rare cause of hypoparathyroidism, inherited in an autosomal dominant mode, resulting from pathogenic variants of the gene, which is implicated in intracellular pathways regulating parathormone (PTH) synthesis and skeletal and parathyroid gland development. : The case of a boy is reported, presenting with the characteristic and newly identified clinical, biochemical, radiological, and genetic abnormalities of KCS2. : The proband had noticeable dysmorphic features, and the closure of the anterior fontanel was delayed until the age of 4 years.
