The ice surface provides two-dimensional reaction fields for bimolecular collisions in interstellar space. As HO molecules on the surface are typically exposed to cosmic rays, HO in the excited state is easily dissociated into H + OH, where a H atom is released from the surface to the gas phase. In the present study, the reaction dynamics of small-sized water clusters on the triplet-state potential energy (T) surface, following the vertical electronic excitation from the ground state (S), were investigated using direct ab initio molecular dynamics to provide insights into the generation mechanism of H atoms from an irradiated ice surface. In all clusters, that is, (HO) ( = 2-6), the H atom was directly dissociated from one of the HO molecules in the clusters (direct dissociation), whereas the OH radical remained in the cluster. In the branched form of HO tetramer ( = 4) and the book form of HO hexamer ( = 6), the dissociated hydrogen atom (H') collided with the neighboring HO molecule, and the exchange of H atoms occurred as H' + HO → H'-HO (collision) → H'OH + H (hydrogen exchange). The translational energy of the exchanged H atom decreases significantly (by approximately 50%) because the kinetic energy of the H' atom is efficiently transferred to the vibrational modes of the cluster during the H-exchange reaction. The mechanism of H atom dissociation is discussed based on theoretical results.

The preparation of food-grade oxidized starch with eco-friendly ozone (O) as oxidant is limited by low mass transfer and reaction efficiency. This study proposed a porous spontaneously polarized ceramic-reinforced O micro-nano bubbles (PSPC-OMNB) technology to prepare oxidized cassava starch (PSPC-OMCS). Meanwhile, reaction uniformity, physicochemical properties, and formation mechanisms were emphasized for comprehensive investigation.

In this paper, we designed and synthesized a novel based on quinoline modification half-salamo-type Zn(II) complex([Zn(L)(μ-OCH)]·(ClO)), namely ZP. The structure of ZP was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, in which the Zn(II) ions displayed in two different coordination modes, ultimately forming a highly symmetric heptanuclear structure. The Zn(II) complex probe modified by quinoline luminescent group has excellent luminescence properties and selectively recognizes Fe in aqueous solution.

Drinking water distribution systems face a multifaceted emerging concern, including in situ microplastic (MP) generation, chemical leaching from plastic pipes, and the formation of disinfection by-products (DBPs). This study investigated the co-release of MPs and chemical leachates from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes exposed to different chlorine concentrations on a lab scale, as well as the subsequent formation of DBP. Results highlighted significant evidence of PVC-derived dissolved organic matter (PVC-DOM) and microplastic (PVC-MP) leaching at higher chlorine concentrations.

Acid mine drainage (AMD) is characterized by high concentrations of Fe(II) and Fe(III), which can be harnessed for the in-situ formation of schwertmannite, enabling the efficient immobilization of toxic heavy metals. However, existing biological and chemical methods for schwertmannite synthesis face significant challenges, including low Fe(II) oxidation rates and particularly limited Fe(III) precipitation efficiency in acidic environments. In this study, we develop a visible light-assisted photo-electrochemical (PEC) system that effectively overcomes these barriers.
