Advancements in delivery strategies and non-tissue culture regeneration systems for plant genetic transformation.

Adv Biotechnol (Singap)

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Applied Botany, South China, Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangzhou, China.

Plant genetic transformation is a pivotal and essential step in modifying important agronomic traits using biotechnological tools, which primarily depend on the efficacy of transgene delivery and the plant regeneration system. Over the years, advancements in the development of delivery methods and regeneration systems have contributed to plant engineering and molecular breeding. Recent studies have demonstrated that the efficiency of plant transformation can be improved by simultaneously delivering meristem-developmental regulators, utilizing virus-mediated gene editing, and executing non-sterile in planta manipulations.

Thermal modification is an environmentally friendly process that does not utilize chemical agents to enhance the stability and durability of wood. The use of thermally modified wood results in a significantly extended lifespan compared with untreated wood, with minimal maintenance requirements, thereby reducing the carbon footprint. This study examines the impact of varying modification temperatures (160, 180, and 210 °C) on the lignin of spruce wood using the ThermoWood process and following the accelerated aging of thermally modified wood.

From the time of discovery, CHNHSnI has been a promising candidate in photovoltaics due to its outstanding optoelectronic properties. However, stabilization was not easy to achieve in CHNHSnI-based solar cells. Because CHNHSnI was used as an absorber, its naturally-occurring self-doping property spontaneously modified band alignment, which increased carrier recombination and decreased the efficiency of solar cell gradually.

Resin biosynthesis in conifer is a complex process, controlled by multiple quantitative trait loci (QTLs). Quantifying resin components is traditionally expensive and labor-intensive. In this study, we employed near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to quantify resin components in Slash pine using 240 genotypes.

Land use change from wildlands to urban and productive environments can dramatically transform ecosystem structure and processes. Despite their structural and functional differences from wildlands, human-modified environments offer unique habitat elements for wildlife. In this study, we examined how migratory birds use urban, productive, and wildland environments of a highly anthropized region of Western Mexico known as "El Bajío".
