This study investigates the separation of two heavy metals, Cd(II) and Cu(II), from the mixed synthetic feed using a liquid-liquid extraction. The current study uses tri-octyl methylammonium chloride (Aliquat 336) as the extractant (with tributyl phosphate (TBP) as a phase modifier), diluted in toluene, in order to investigate the selective extraction of Cd(II) over Cu(II) ions. We investigate the use of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as a masking agent for Cu(II), when added in aqueous feed, for the selective extraction of Cd(II). Five factors that influence the selective extraction of Cd(II) over Cu(II) (the equilibrium pH (pH), Aliquat 336 concentration (Aliquat 336), TBP concentration (TBP), EDTA concentration (EDTA), and organic to aqueous ratio (O:A)) were analyzed. Results from a 2 fractional factorial design show that Aliquat 336 significantly influenced Cd(II) extraction, whereas EDTA was statistically significant for the antagonistic effect on the E% of Cu(II) in the same system. Moreover, results from optimization experiment showed that the optimum conditions are Aliquat 336 concentration of 99.64 mM and EDTA concentration of 48.86 mM-where 95.89% of Cd(II) was extracted with the least extracted Cu(II) of 0.59%. A second-order model was fitted for optimization of Cd(II) extraction with a R value of 0.998, and ANOVA results revealed that the model adequately fitted the data at a 5% significance level. Interaction between Aliquat 336 and Cd(II) has been proven via FTIR qualitative analysis, whereas the addition of TBP does not affect the extraction mechanism.

This work aims to recover rare earths from wind turbines NdFeB magnets through pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical techniques. First, a NdFeB hydride powder is obtained by decrepitation with hydrogen. Subsequently, this powder was subjected to a chlorination roasting process and successive leaching with water to bring the metals into solution.

Conjugated donor-acceptor (D-A) copolymers are widely used in optoelectronic devices due to their influence on the resulting properties. This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of the conjugated D-A copolymer constructed with fluorene and di-2-thienyl-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole units, resulting in Poly[2,7-(9,9-dioctyl-fluorene)-alt-5,5-(4,7-di(2-thienyl)-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole)] (PFDTBT). The synthesis associated with reaction times of 48 and 24 h, the latter incorporating the phase-transfer catalyst Aliquat 336, was investigated.

A phosphonium-based bifunctional ionic liquid (IL) Cyp-IL was synthesized to recover molybdenum and vanadium from industrial waste resources, such as the spent hydrodesulfurization catalysts. In comparison with the reported versatile Aliquat 336-based ionic liquid, the developed ionic liquid Cyp-IL was investigated for its potential application recovery of vanadium and molybdenum from industrial wastes. To assess the efficiency of the comparative extraction process, a comprehensive comparison analysis was conducted between the ammonium-based bifunctional ionic liquid Aliquat 336 and the developed phosphonium-based bifunctional ionic liquid Cyp-IL.

Solvent extraction of selenium(IV) ions from highly concentrated hydrochloric acid using 0.4 mol/L Aliquat 336 dissolved in kerosene was investigated. As a modifying agent, 1-octanol (10% v/v) was added to the organic phase to avoid the third phase formation.

Controlling radioactivity is essential in various fields, such as the decommissioning of nuclear power plants and nuclear medicine. In some cases, a full characterization of samples is not required; instead, a screening analysis that provides an overall indication of the activity present can be sufficient to determine if a sample is radioactive. This article introduces a new system called PSkits designed specifically for ultra-fast and selective screening detection of Tc.
