Solvent evaporation in unpinned droplets of colloidal suspensions leads to the formation of porous shells which buckle under the pressure differential imposed by drying. We investigate the role of aspect ratio of rod-shaped particles in suppressing such buckling instabilities. Longer, thinner rods pack into permeable shells with consequently lower Darcy's pressure and thus avoid buckling.

Hollandite-type α-MnO exhibits exceptional promise in current industrial applications and in advancing next-generation green energy technologies, such as multivalent (Mg, Ca, and Zn) ion battery cathodes and aerobic oxidation catalysts. Considering the slow diffusion of multivalent cations within α-MnO tunnels and the catalytic activity at edge surfaces, ultrasmall α-MnO particles with a lower aspect ratio are expected to unlock the full potential. In this study, ultrasmall α-MnO (<10 nm) with a low aspect ratio (c/a ≈ 2) is synthesized using a newly developed alcohol solution process.

Pancreatic cancer is usually diagnosed at a late stage and is characterized by early systemic metastases, which can also be present in the form of micrometastases that are not primarily visible. Lymphatic metastases in pancreatic cancer are common. The extent of lymph node removal (lymphadenectomy, LAD) in pancreatic cancer is defined in the guidelines of the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF) and according to currently available data has more diagnostic and prognostic relevance than therapeutic relevance; however, within the framework of modern multimodal treatment algorithms, radical surgery is the most relevant of all components of multimodal treatment with LAD playing an important role.

Both stability and multi-level switching are crucial performance aspects for resistive random-access memory (RRAM), each playing a significant role in improving overall device performance. In this study, we successfully integrate these two features into a single RRAM configuration by embedding Ag-nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) into the TiN/Ta2O5/ITO structure. The device exhibits substantially lower switching voltages, a larger switching ratio, and multi-level switching phenomena compared to many other nanoparticle-embedded devices.

Background: Fully automated digital interventions delivered via smartphone apps have proven efficacious for a wide variety of mental health outcomes. An important aspect is that they are accessible at a low cost, thereby increasing their potential public impact and reducing disparities. However, a major challenge to their successful implementation is the phenomenon of users dropping out early.
