This study aimed to assess the correlation between estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) and mortality rates related to all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) among individuals diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the United States. A total of 4669 participants with CKD were identified from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted between 1999 and 2018. We calculated the incidence of CKD using an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of < 60 mL/min/1.

Purpose Of The Review: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a transient form of left ventricular dysfunction, typically affecting post-menopausal females, often preceded by emotional or physical stressful events that act as triggers. Initially believed to be a rare and benign condition for its reversible nature, TTS has recently emerged as a complex multifaceted clinical entity, with heterogenous clinical presentations and a non-negligible risk of serious in-hospital complications, including acute heart failure, arrhythmias and death.
Recent Findings: Emerging pathophysiological hypotheses, ranging from microvascular dysfunction to systemic inflammation, offer new insights into the underlying mechanisms of TTS.

Plant-based dietary patterns have been demonstrated to reduce the risk of non-communicable disease (NCD), including cardiovascular disease (CVD), type 2 diabetes, cancer, and all-cause mortality. Phenolic compounds (PC), abundant in plant-based foods, have been considered as instrumental in this attenuation of NCD risk. We evaluated the association between dietary intake of PC and the risk of all-cause mortality in a relatively young Mediterranean cohort of 18,173 Spanish participants in the "Seguimiento Universidad de Navarra" (SUN) project, after a median follow-up of 12.

Snakebites caused by snakes are the most prevalent in the Amazon region, causing local and systemic complications. Local complications are mostly represented by necrosis, secondary bacterial infection and compartment syndrome. There are reports of long-term disabilities, but their burden is poorly investigated.

Penetrating captive bolt (PCB) is widely used for stunning and on-farm dispatch of livestock, yet its efficacy can vary, with the potential for animal welfare compromise. This study investigated the pathophysiology of PCB-induced trauma in horned and polled sheep (), focusing on factors contributing to incomplete concussion. Thirty-seven ( = 18 horned Scottish blackface and = 19 polled North Country mule) mature ewes (aged 4-10 years) were shot with PCB with varying cartridge power and PCB modifications, followed by clinical assessment and post-mortem analysis using magnetic resonance imagining (MRI) and gross pathology.
