Background: Animal studies established that the locus coeruleus (LC) plays important roles in sleep and wakefulness regulation. Whether it contributes to sleep variability in humans is not yet established. Purpose: We present a case of ocular pathology linked to morbid obesity, emphasizing the role of systemic inflammation in ocular disease and clinical impact of weight loss.
Methods: We report the case of a 49-year-old man with morbid obesity and obstructive sleep apnea who underwent bilateral corneal transplants secondary to keratoconus. For 4 years, he had chronic bulbar hyperemia with progressive blood vessel growth across the graft-host junction, which was treated with chronic topical corticosteroids.

Emotional memories change over time, but the mechanisms supporting this change are not well understood. Sleep has been identified as one mechanism that supports memory consolidation, with sleep selectively benefitting negative emotional consolidation at the expense of neutral memories, with specific oscillatory events linked to this process. In contrast, the consolidation of neutral and positive memories, compared to negative memories, has been associated with increased vagally mediated heart rate variability (HRV) during wakefulness.

Individuals with comorbid rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behaviour disorder (RBD) and neurotrauma (NT; defined by traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder) have an earlier age of RBD symptom onset, increased RBD-related symptom severity and more neurological features indicative of prodromal synucleinopathy compared to RBD only. An early sign of neurodegenerative condition is autonomic dysfunction, which we sought to evaluate by examining heart rate variability during sleep. Participants with overnight polysomnography were recruited from the Veterans Affairs Portland Health Care System.

Background: Poor sleep in pregnancy is associated with several adverse maternal and infant outcomes. Psychoeducational interventions may offer a safe and acceptable first-line intervention to help with sleep disturbances.
Aim: To identify and review studies that examined the effect of psycho-educational interventions on sleep in pregnancy and to identify moderators in the treatment effects of the interventions.
