NiCo-layered double hydroxide (LDH) has attracted increasing attention in recent years for application in supercapacitors (SCs) owing to its high redox activity and intercalating capability. However, the pristine NiCo-LDH is unable to reach theoretical specific capacitance and satisfying rate capability due to the limited electroactive species and a low ion diffusion rate. Here, we demonstrate novel vertically aligned nanosheet arrays of cobalt metal-organic framework (Co-MOF)@CoNiO core-shell composites constructed by the in situ grown Co-MOF shell with a uniform and controlled thickness on the CoNiO core via a vapor-phase approach. Owing to the intimate contact and synergistic effect between the Co-MOF shell and the CoNiO core, the as-synthesized Co-MOF@CoNiO displays a high specific capacitance of about 571 F g, which is significantly higher than the pristine NiCo-LDH electrode (380 F g). Moreover, the capacitive properties of Co-MOF@CoNiO can be further boosted to 757.2 F g after cyclic voltammetry oxidation. The easy preparation and high electrochemical performance of the Co-MOF@CoNiO composite make it a potential material for SC application. These findings may inspire the exploration and construction of other MOF shell coating metal oxide from various nanostructured LDHs for varied applications. In addition, the as-assembled EO-Co-MOF@CoNiO/carbon cloth (CC)//activated carbon (AC) device can achieve a high capacitance of 87.67 F g. Meanwhile, the asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device exhibits a high energy density of 27.4 Wh kg at a power density of 750 W kg.

Herein, a new heterogeneous CoSe@NC material with abundant selenium vacancies is synthesized via an in-situ carbonization-selenization process from cobaltic metal organic framework (Co-MOF). The obtained CoSe@NC has a unique electronic structure and rich active sites, which can activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade carbamazepine (CBZ) with superior catalytic performance and stability. The quenchingexperiments and EPR test show that SO is the dominant reactive oxidation species (ROSs) for CBZ degradation.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibited huge application potential in electrochemical analysis field, how to facilely and effectively boost the electrochemical sensing activity of MOFs materials still face enormous challenges. In this work, core-shell Co-MOF (Co-TCA@ZIF-67) polyhedrons with hierarchical porosity was easily synthesized via simple chemical etching reaction by selecting thiocyanuric acid as the etching reagent. Benefiting from the introduction of mesopores and thiocyanuric acid/Co complex on the surface of ZIF-67 frameworks, the property and functions of the pristine ZIF-67 was seriously tailored.

Metal-organic frameworks as a unique class of high-surface-area materials have gained considerable attention due to their characteristic properties. In this perspective, herein, we report an eco-friendly and inexpensive route for the synthesis of 4(3)-quinazolinones using magnetically separable core-shell-like bimetallic FeO-MAA@Co-MOF@Cu-MOF NPs as environmentally-friendly heterogeneous catalysts. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of the integration of two different types of MOFs, which contain two different metal ions (Co in the core and Cu in the shell) using an external ligand.

Constructing a reliable and robust cobalt-based catalyst for hydrogen evolution via hydrolysis of sodium borohydride is appealing but challenging due to the deactivation caused by the metal leaching and re-oxidization of metallic cobalt. A unique core-shell-structured coronavirus-like Co@C microsphere was prepared via pyrolysis of Co-MOF. This special Co@C had a microporous carbon coating to retain the reduced state of cobalt and resist the metal leaching.

The binary as well as ternary nanocomposites of the square-facet nanobar Co-MOF-derived CoO@Co/N-CNTs (N-CNTs: nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes) with Ag NPs and rGO have been synthesized via an easy wet chemical route, and their supercapacitor behavior was then studied. At a controlled pH of the precursor solution, square-facet nanobars of Co-MOF were first synthesized by the solvothermal method and then pyrolyzed under a controlled nitrogen atmosphere to get a core-shell system of CoO@Co/N-CNTs. In the second step, different compositions of CoO@Co/N-CNT core-shell structures were formed by an method with Ag NPs and rGO moieties.
