Both thermodynamic and kinetic insights are needed for a proper analysis of association and dissociation processes of host-guest interactions. However, kinetic descriptions of supramolecular systems are scarce in the literature because suitable experimental protocols are lacking. We introduce here three time-resolved methods that allow for convenient determination of kinetic rate constants of spectroscopically silent or even insoluble guests with the macrocyclic cucurbit[n]uril family and human serum albumin (HSA) protein as representative hosts.

Background: The prevalence of hearing loss in infants in India varies between 4 and 5 per 1000. Objective-based otoacoustic emissions and auditory brainstem response have been used in high-income countries for establishing early hearing screening and intervention programs. Nevertheless, the use of objective screening tests in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as India is not feasible.

Purpose: This study investigates how Mandarin-English bilingual students in Canada produce Mandarin tones and how this is influenced by factors such as tone complexity, cross-linguistic influences, and speech input.

Method: Participants were 82 students enrolled in a Chinese bilingual program in Western Canada. Students were recruited from Grades 1, 3, and 5 and divided into two groups based on their home language backgrounds: The heritage language group had early and strong input in Mandarin, and the second language (L2) group received mostly English input at home.

Introduction: Evidence-based practices (EBPs) use evidence (external and internal), clinician expertise, and client/caregiver perspectives to deliver effective, individualized care. Each component of EBP is highly relevant and most effective when implemented together. Families with cultural or linguistic backgrounds different from the mainstream experience inequitable treatment across all disciplines.

Background: Platelet recovery was an important prognostic indicator in severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS). This study focused on risk factors affecting platelet recovery in surviving SFTS patients, which can assist clinicians in the early screening of patients associated with a greater risk of mortality.

Method: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of SFTS patients admitted to Yantai Qishan Hospital throughout 2023.

Human exposure to mycotoxins is common and often severe in underregulated maize-based food systems. This study explored how monitoring of these systems could help to identify when and where outbreaks occur and inform potential mitigation efforts. Within a maize smallholder system in Kongwa District, Tanzania, we performed two food surveys of mycotoxin contamination at local grain mills, documenting high levels of aflatoxins and fumonisins in maize destined for human consumption.
