In this work, with the use of two natural compounds, chitin and sepiolite clay, a novel covalent hybrid is fabricated and applied as a support for the stabilization of silver nanoparticles with the aid of Kombucha extract as a natural reducing agent. The resultant catalytic system, Ag@Sep-N-CH, was characterized via XRD, TEM, FTIR, ICP, SEM, TGA, UV-Vis and BET. It was found that fine Ag(0) nanoparticles with mean diameter of 6.1 ± 1.8 nm were formed on the support and the specific surface area of the catalyst was 130 m g. The study of the catalytic performance of Ag@Sep-N-CH for catalyzing synthesis of xanthenes in aqueous media under mild reaction condition confirmed that Ag@Sep-N-CH exhibited high catalytic activity and could promote the reaction of various substrates to furnish the corresponding products in high yields. Moreover, the contribution of both chitin and sepiolite to the catalysis has been affirmed. It was found that hybridization of these two components led to synergistic effects and consequently improved the observed catalytic activity. Notably, the catalyst was recyclable up to several reaction runs.

Background: Real-time and rapid detection of ingredients in food has important significance for food safety. However, traditional detection methods not only require bulky and costly instruments but also are often based on single-mode analysis, limiting their accuracy and applications in point-of-care testing. Herein, an integrated and miniaturized dual-mode device based on colorimetric and photoacoustic (PA) principles is developed, using Au@Ag nanoparticles (Au@AgNPs) as signal probe and ascorbic acid (AA) and ascorbate oxidase (AAO) as analytes.

The properties of two hybrid nanoarchaeosomes (hybrid nanoARCs) made of archaeolipids extracted from the halophilic archaea and combining the properties of archaeolipid bilayers with metallic nanoparticles are explored here. BS-nanoARC, consisting of a nanoARC loaded with yerba mate ( extract (YME)-biogenic silver nanoparticles (BSs), and [BS + BS-nanoARC], consistent of a BS-nanoARC core covered by an outer shell of BSs, were structurally characterized and their therapeutic activities screened. By employing 109 ± 5 µg gallic acid equivalents (GAEs) and 73.

Cytosine-rich and poly(adenine)-tailed tetrahedral DNA framework (TDF) is designed as template (A-TDF) for anchoring silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) and igniting the dual-color fluorescence of AgNCs. The resultant DNA-AgNCs simultaneously emits red and green fluorescence, and the quantum yield of red fluorescence is as high as 44.8%.

Pectin-based silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been used in the field of antibacterials for food due to their excellent antibacterial properties. Herein, in order to achieve higher antibacterial performance, AgNPs were synthesized using high-methoxyl pectin (HMP) and amidated low-methoxyl pectin (ALMP) as precursors. Initially, ALMP-1, -2, and -4 were obtained by pectin amidation with increasing concentrations of NHOH.

InPrO microtubes are derived from MIL-68, and then Ag nanoparticles are anchored to synthesize Ag/InPrO microtubes. All results indicate that Pr-doping and Ag-loading greatly affect the gas-sensing performance of InO sensor, which InPrO and Ag/InO sensors both exhibit the response value exceeding 900. While Ag/InPrO sensor exhibits the highest response value of 2438.
