Polyketide synthases (PKSs) are multidomain enzymatic assembly lines that biosynthesize a wide selection of bioactive natural products from simple building blocks. In contrast to their -acyltransferase (AT) counterparts, -AT PKSs rely on stand-alone ATs to load extender units onto acyl carrier protein (ACP) domains embedded in the core PKS machinery. -AT PKS gene clusters also encode stand-alone acyl hydrolases (AHs), which are predicted to share the overall fold of ATs but function like type II thioesterases (TEs), hydrolyzing aberrant acyl chains from ACP domains to promote biosynthetic efficiency.

Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is characterized by an extremely high mortality rate, mainly caused by the high metastatic potential of this type of cancer. To date, chemotherapy remains the backbone of the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer. Three main chemotherapeutic drugs used for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer are 5-fluorouracil, oxaliplatin and irinotecan which is metabolized to an active compound SN-38.

Objective: The objective of this study is to present a cross-sectional analysis of cancer burden in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region and explain unique characteristics of its cancer burden as compared with the rest of the world.
Methods And Analysis: Using publicly available data from the Global Cancer Observatory (GCO) and the World Bank, we collected cancer statistics and population statistics for Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka from 2017 to 2022.
Results: The number of newly diagnosed cases in the region was 1 846 963, representing 9.

Objectives: Locally led research on cancer is needed in sub-Saharan Africa to set feasible research priorities that inform national policy. The aim of this project was to develop a research agenda for national cancer control planning, using a nationally driven approach, focused on barriers to diagnosis and high-quality treatment for prostate cancer in Zambia.
Methods And Analysis: This was a Delphi process.

While the significance of strengthening the biomedical workforce in resource-limited settings has been widely acknowledged, there remains a paucity of information specific to the local context. In this regard, we underscore the importance of formulating a biomedical engineering policy based on empirical evidence. To provide such evidence, we conducted an analysis of the government-led biomedical training program in Tanzania, titled 'Capacity Enhancement of Medical Equipment Technical Services (CEOMETS)'.
