Here, we report highly dispersed small ruthenium nanoparticles (NPs) anchored onto a porous carbon (Ru/PC) with a clean catalytic surface and explore their excellent peroxidase-like activity for 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine oxidation mediated by HO, which allows sensitive colorimetric detection of HO with a low detection limit of 3.8 μM. Moreover, it is also found that the Ru/PC has a high nitroreductase-like activity for 4-nitroaniline reduction triggered by NaBH.

Developing a highly sensitive approach for neurotransmitter analysis is of vital significance due to their essential role in clinical diagnosis and treatment of disease. Herein, bovine serum albumin templated copper nanoparticles (BSA-Cu NPs) with peroxidase-mimicking activity are designed and synthesized for dopamine detection through the fluorometric/colorimetric dual-mode technique. The experimental results suggest that as-fabricated BSA-Cu NPs can strongly catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to produce oxidized substances, accompanied by remarkable color changes of chromogenic agent 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine from colorless to blue, revealing peroxidase-like activities of BSA-Cu NPs.

Four dual-responsive probe molecules 1,5-bis(thiophene-2-carbaldehyde)carbohydrazone (R1), 1,5-bis(thiophene-2-carbaldehyde)thiocarbohydrazone (R2), 1,5-bis(indole-3-carbaldehyde)carbohydrazone (R3), and 1,5-bis(indole-3-carbaldehyde)thiocarbohydrazone (R4) were synthesized, characterized, and investigated for their sensing efficacy. The initial sensing behavior of the probes was tested by colorimetric signaling, followed by spectral and theoretical techniques, which supported the dual-sensing ability of the selected inorganic ions. The probes exhibited highly selective optical recognition for Cu/Fe cations and F/ClO anions compared to the tested cations and anions.

Herein, the miniaturized thermal purge-and-trap (MTPT) device combined with self-calibration colorimetric/surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) dual-model optical sensors were designed for effective analysis of sulfur dioxide (SO) in wine. The SO can be rapidly separated from wine and enriched by MTPT device, ensuring colorimetric/SERS dual-model optical sensing based on Karl Fischer reaction. The high separation efficiency of miniaturized MTPT device combined with self-calibration of dual-model optical sensors significantly alleviate matrix interference and improve the detection accuracy.

Quantitative analysis of As(V) in rice is of great significance for food safety and heavy metal pollution control. Here, a facile colorimetric method for As(V) detection was constructed by using immobilized acid phosphatase (ACP) in hollow metal-organic frameworks hybrid. Metalloporphyrin and gold nanoparticles modified hollow zeolite imidazole framework-8 [Au/HZIF-8@TCPP(Fe)], named AuHT, was chosen here as ACP immobilizing carrier with peroxidase-like activity.

A metal-organic framework (MOF)-encapsulated nanozyme has been developed to detect L-cysteine (L-Cys) through a facile colorimetric sensing method in this study. This nanozyme was prepared by encapsulating Fmoc-histidine (FH) and hemin within ZIF-8 (FH/hemin@ZIF-8) and exhibited significantly enhanced catalytic activity and great stability because of its unique structure. FH/hemin@ZIF-8 oxidized colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to a distinct blue color with the assistance of HO.
