AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

B. ovatus is a member of the human gut microbiota with a broad capability to degrade complex glycans. Here we show that B. ovatus degrades plant polysaccharides in a preferential order, and that glycan structural complexity plays a role in determining the prioritisation of polysaccharide usage.

Wild chimpanzees drum on tree buttresses during dominance displays and travel, generating low-frequency sounds that are audible over distances of more than 1 km. Western chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus) in the Nimba Mountains of Guinea selectively choose trees and buttresses when drumming, potentially based on their resonant properties, suggesting that these chimpanzees are optimizing their drumming signals. We investigated whether male eastern chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) from the Waibira community in the Budongo Forest, Uganda, also show preferences in tree and buttress choice, exploring whether selectivity is a species-wide feature.

The GhANT-GoPGF module regulates pigment gland development in cotton leaves.

Cell Rep

December 2024

National Key Laboratory of Cotton Bio-breeding and Integrated Utilization, School of Life Science, Henan University, Kaifeng, Henan 475004, P.R. China. Electronic address:

Gossypium spp. pigment glands are a good model for studying plant secretory cavity structures. GoPGF (GOSSYPIUM PIGMENT GLAND FORMATION) is a well-characterized master transcription factor that controls gland formation in cotton; however, little is known about its transcriptional regulation.

The excessive and/or improper use of plant protection products (PPPs) can generate alarming levels of residues in the environment, compromising both soil fertility and food safety. Various organic wastes released in large amounts by agro-industrial activity are currently studied and applied as bioadsorbents for water and soil decontamination. This study explored the capacity of untreated orange peel, olive stones and pistachio shells to adsorb the PPPs oxyfluorfen (OXY), metribuzin (MET) and imidacloprid (IMI), and the xenoestrogen bisphenol A (BPA) from water.

The GRAS gene family and its roles in pineapple (Ananas comosus L.) developmental regulation and cold tolerance.

BMC Plant Biol

December 2024

Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Haixia Applied Plant Systems Biology, Haixia Institute of Science and Technology, College of Life Sciences, College of Marine Sciences, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Fuzhou, 350002, China.

Background: Pineapple (Ananas comosus L.) is a major tropical fruit crop with considerable economic importance, and its growth and development are significantly impacted by low temperatures. The plant-specific GRAS gene family plays crucial roles in diverse processes, including flower and fruit development, as well as in stress responses.
