Article Synopsis
  • Jejunal diverticulosis is a rare condition characterized by multiple pouches forming in the wall of the jejunum, primarily affecting older adults.
  • Its causes are linked to problems with gut movement, structural weaknesses, and high pressure inside the intestine, leading to the mucosa pushing through weak spots in the wall.
  • Symptoms can range from no noticeable issues to serious complications like obstruction, bleeding, or perforation, with treatment options varying based on severity, from conservative care to surgical intervention.

Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are often associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IEI can be corrected by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT); however, peritransplantation intestinal inflammation may increase the risk of gut graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Vedolizumab inhibits the homing of lymphocytes to the intestine and may attenuate gut GVHD, yet its role in preventing GVHD in pediatric patients with IEI-associated IBD has not been studied.

Introduction: Endoscopic bariatric and metabolic therapies can potentially reproduce similar gastric and small intestinal anatomic and physiologic manipulations as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. This proof of concept animal study was aimed to assess the feasibility, safety, efficacy, and impact on gastrointestinal physiology of combined intragastric balloons (IGB) and duodenal-jejunal bypass liner (DJBL) for the treatment of obesity.

Methods: Five Ossabaw pigs were fed a high-calorie diet to develop obesity and were randomly assigned to receive IGB or DJBL in sequence.
