(L.) Wettst. (BM) has been traditionally used in Ayurveda for improving memory and cognitive deficits which is also evidenced through experimental and clinical studies. The neuropharmacological properties of BM are attributed to "bacosides", a complex mixture of saponin compounds. BM extracts enriched with bacosides offers commercial advantage due to perceived higher efficacy. However, there is no scientific data to support the same. In the present study, methanolic extract of BM (BME) was compared with bacosides enriched (BME-EF) vis a vis bacosides free fraction (BME-FF). Potential antioxidant and cholinesterase inhibitory activity has been evaluated using and methods. BME showed not only the highest anti-amnesic efficacy but also antioxidant and cholinesterase inhibitory activity, followed by either BME-FF or BME-EF. Interestingly, no significant differences were found in between the groups. These findings dispel the notion that bacosides enrichment enhances anti-amnesic efficacy and also suggests the contribution of other components.

Parkinson's disease (PD), an age-associated neurodegenerative motor disorder, is associated with dementia and cognitive decline. However, the precise molecular insight into PD-induced cognitive decline is not fully understood. Here, we have investigated the possible alterations in the expression of glutamate receptor and its trafficking/scaffolding/regulatory proteins underlying the memory formation and neuroprotective effects of a specialized Bacopa monnieri extract, CDRI-08 (BME) in the hippocampus of the rotenone-induced PD mouse model.

Modulation of in vivo adult neurogenesis (AN) is an evolving concept in managing neurodegenerative diseases. CDRI-08, a bacoside-enriched fraction of Bacopa monnieri, has been demonstrated for its neuroprotective actions, but its effect on AN remains unexplored. This article describes the status of AN by monitoring neuronal stem cells (NSCs) proliferation, differentiation/maturation markers and BDNF-TrkB levels (NSCs signalling players) vs.

Bacoside A (gypenoside, Gyp) is a potent bioactive compound derived from Gynostemma pentaphyllum, known to exert inhibitory effects on various malignant tumors. However, the effects of Gyp on glioma as well as the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In the present study, we first conducted a comprehensive investigation into the anti-glioma potential of gypenosides using network pharmacology to identify potential glioma-related targets.

Androgens and androgen receptors (AR) are the master regulators in the development of prostate cancer. Majority of the patients show positive response to surgical or medical castration, while many patients show disease relapse after the treatment. Genomic profiling has proven that the deregulated PI3K, Ras/Raf, MAPK and EGFR signaling pathways confer survival and invasion advantage to the cancer cells.
