In Bangladesh, a nationwide lockdown was imposed on 26 March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to restricted emissions, it was hypothesized that the air quality has been improved during lockdown throughout the country. The study is intended to assess the impact of nationwide lockdown measures on air quality in Bangladesh. We analyzed satellite data for four different air pollutants (NO, SO, CO, and O) to assess the changes in the atmospheric concentrations of pollutants in major cities as well as across the country. In this study, the concentrations of NO, SO, CO, and O from 1 February to 30 May of the year 2019 and 2020 were analyzed. The average SO and NO concentrations were decreased by 43 and 40%, respectively, while tropospheric O were found to be increased with a maximum of > 7%. Among the major cities, Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, and Narayanganj were found to be more influenced by the restricted emissions. In Dhaka, NO and SO concentrations were decreased approximately by 69 and 67%, respectively. Our analysis reveals that NO concentrations are highly correlated with the regional COVID-19 cases ( = 0.74). The study concludes that the lockdown measures significantly reduced air pollution because of reduced vehicular and industrial emissions in Bangladesh.

: The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on mental health in the general population. The fear, stress, and uncertainty surrounding that traumatic period could have contributed to the aggravation or possible new onset of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The COvid Mental hEalth Trial (COMET) is a nationwide project organized by the University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli", designed as an observational investigation that aimed to gather data from a representative sample of the Italian general population.

Article Synopsis
  • The study addresses the lack of high-resolution, long-term PM (particulate matter) data in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean by developing a national spatial modeling approach that integrates various data sources for more accurate health exposure estimates.* -
  • A 1 km gridded dataset of PM concentrations from 2015 to 2022 was created, with Random Forest models showing the best predictive performance, particularly revealing winter months had the highest PM levels due to residential biomass burning.* -
  • The findings indicate that the Greek population is consistently exposed to PM concentrations above WHO guidelines, particularly in Central and Northern regions, highlighting an urgent need for targeted measures to improve air quality.*

Purpose: We aim to report the frequency and distribution of corneal transplantation, by age, sex, and state/territory, in Australia over a > 25-year period from 1994 to 2022, including during COVID-19 lockdowns.

Methods: Using data from Medicare, Australia's Government-funded health insurance scheme, we retrospectively analysed corneal transplants performed from January 1994 to December 2022.

Results: From 1994 to 2022, there were 27,536 corneal transplantation services processed by Medicare.
