Two-photon nonlinear process induced fluorescence of Rhodamine 6G (R6G), Rhodamine B (RB), and their mixed aqueous solutions in mass proportion of 1:1, is experimentally observed by different exciting wavelengths. It shows that, for each sample, the exciting wavelength can influence the fluorescence intensity considerably but only slightly influence the peak wavelength of the spectrum. The optimal exciting wavelengths of R6G and the mixed dyes are around 700 nm. While for RB, the optimal exciting wavelengths can be 700 nm and 620 nm. For each dye sample, the spectral red-shift will occur as increase of the solution concentration. The mixing of the two dyes will cause the spectral red-shift with regard to the single dye under our experimental conditions. Moreover, in comparison, at lower concentrations, the mixed dye has relatively intense fluorescence. This work is of significance for determining the optimal exciting wavelength and developing the tunable two-photon dye lasers.

Holographically designed aperiodic lattices (ALs) have proven to be an exciting engineering technique for achieving electrically switchable single- or multi-frequency emissions in terahertz (THz) semiconductor lasers. Here, we employ the nonlinear transfer matrix modeling method to investigate multi-wavelength nonlinear (sum- or difference-) frequency generation within an integrated THz (idler) laser cavity that also supports optical (pump and signal) waves. The laser cavity includes an aperiodic lattice, which engineers the idler photon lifetimes and effective refractive indices.

In molecular beam scattering experiments, an important technique for measuring product energy and angular distributions is velocity map imaging following photoionization of one or more scattered species. For studies with cold molecular beams, the ultimate resolution of such a study is often limited by the product detection process. When state-selective ionization detection is used, excess energy from the ionization step can transfer to kinetic energy in the target molecular ion-electron pair, resulting in measurable cation recoil.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy is a powerful technique for the ultra-sensitive detection of organic analytes. In this paper, the preparation of SERS substrates based on silver nanorods (AgNRs) is proposed, exploiting a simple protocol which does not require complex procedures and/or sophisticated and expensive instrumentation. For this purpose, various syntheses of AgNRs were tested, and the best one for preparing the SERS active substrate proved to be the one which does not involve surfactants as nanoparticle stabilizers.

The analyses were performed on a waveguide formed as a step-index few-mode optical fiber coated with a thin gold film, at an operating wavelength of 1310 nm. The waveguide was found to support modes having optical fiber, circular metallic waveguide, and surface plasmon characteristics, depending on geometrical and material parameters.
