Icaritin (ICT), a prenylflavonoid derivative extracted from the Epimedium genus, has exhibited antitumor effects in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and safety and tolerance in clinical settings. However, ICT exhibits low blood concentration and the in vivo dominant plasma species of ICT is glucuronides [icaritin-3-glucuronide (G1), icaritin-7-glucuronide (G2) and icaritin-3, 7-diglucuronide (DIG)]. Therefore, how ICT reaches the liver and exerts its effect with low toxicity remains unknown. Therefore, pharmacokinetic experiments (p.o. 5 mg/kg with/out 50 mg/kg inhibitor combo), intestinal perfusion (2 μM ICT), portal vein infusion (1.6 μM ICT, 7.1 μM G1, 6.8 μM G2 and 4.4 μM DIG), and in vitro studies (the concentration range of substrates: 0.3-10 μM) were conducted in the present study. Ultimately, ICT was shown to undergo glucuronidation by the intestine and subsequent uptake by hepatocytes via organic anion transporting peptides (OATPs) as conjugates, followed by biliary excretion mainly as diglucuronide. In conclusion, we found for the first time that the intestine is considered as the major metabolic organ, liver as the main recycling organ for the enterohepatic recycling (EHR) of ICT. Moreover, DIG is the main species in the systemic circulation following oral administration of ICT which explains the low toxicity of ICT in clinical settings.

Background And Objective: Telmisartan exhibits significant pharmacokinetic (PK) variability, but it remains unclear whether its PK profile is altered in hypertensive patients. This study aimed to characterize telmisartan PKs by conducting a meta-analysis and developing a pooled population PK model based on data from healthy subjects and hypertensive patients.
Methods: Relevant literature was identified by a systematic approach.

The urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is characterized by a lower overpotential compared to the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) during electrolysis, which facilitates the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the cathode. Charge distribution, which can be modulated by the introduction of a heterostructure, plays a key role in enhancing the adsorption and cleavage of chemical groups within urea molecules. Herein, a facile all-room temperature synthesis of functional heterojunction NiCoS/CoMoS grown on carbon cloth (CC) is presented, and the as-prepared electrode served as a catalyst for simultaneous hydrogen evolution and urea oxidation reaction.

Molecular diagnosis limitations, including complex treatment processes, low cost-effectiveness, and operator-dependent low reproducibility, interrupt the timely prevention of disease spread and the development of medical devices for home and outdoor uses. A newly fabricated gold nanopillar array-based film is presented for superior photothermal energy conversion. Magnifying the metal film surface-to-volume ratio increases the photothermal energy conversion efficiency, resulting in a swift reduction in the gene amplification reaction time.

In this study, a supramolecular fluorescent material was constructed by using double-cavity twisted cucurbit[14]uril (tQ[14]) and positively charged Astrazon Pink FG (APFG) based on the non-covalent host-guest interaction for the first time. The thermodynamic parameters of the APFG@tQ[14] in aqueous solution were determined by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), the results indicated that the spontaneous assembly of APFG@tQ[14] is mainly driven by enthalpy. The intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect induced the APFG@tQ[14] probe to emit a strong orange-red fluorescence.

Oxidation of dopamine can cause various side effects, which ultimately leads to cell death and contributes to Parkinson's disease (PD). To counteract dopamine oxidation, newly synthesized dopamine is quickly transported into vesicles via vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) for storage. VMAT2 expression is reduced in patients with PD, and studies have shown increased accumulation of dopamine oxidation byproducts and α-synuclein in animals with low VMAT2 expression.
