Introduction: Phaeohyphomycoses are uncommon and poorly understood opportunistic fungal infections, characterized by a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations ranging from localized skin lesions to disseminated disease. Most frequent genera are Alternaria, Cladophialophora, Exophiala or Curvularia. Less common ones, such as Verruconis gallopava, initially described as responsible of encephalitis of turkeys, pose significant challenges for diagnosis and treatment.

Background/objectives: The diagnosis of encephalitis is a challenging problem due to the heterogeneity of clinical presentations. The objective was to determine the etiology, clinical features, laboratory parameters, radiological findings, and in-hospital outcome of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) cases in Myanmar.
Methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted at the Neuromedical Ward of Yangon General Hospital from March to August 2023.

A complete postmortem examination, including a computed tomography scan "virtopsy" (virtual necropsy), gross necropsy, cytology, histology, and molecular diagnostics were performed to investigate the cause of death of a deceased adult male Atlantic spotted dolphin () that stranded on Pensacola Beach, Florida, USA in February 2020. Significant findings included chronic inflammation of the meninges, brain, and spinal cord with intralesional protozoa (identified as 18S rRNA and ITS-1 sequences), suppurative fungal tracheitis and bronchopneumonia (identified as ITS-2 gene sequence) and ulcerative bacterial glossitis (associated with a novel species, Treponema stenella, identified 23S rRNA gene sequence). This is the first reported case of in a marine mammal.

Background: Venetoclax is frequently used as salvage treatment in pediatric, adolescent, and young adult (AYA) patients with advanced hematologic malignancies. However, more data are needed from real-world studies to guide the safe and appropriate use of venetoclax in this population.
Procedure: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients diagnosed with hematologic malignancies less than 30 years of age treated with venetoclax outside of clinical trials at the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children's Hospitals from 2016 to 2022.
