In this perspective, we discuss non-experts' beliefs about the complex and 'messy' problem of antibiotic resistance (ABR). First, we explain what we mean by complex and messy problems and why ABR fits that description. We then suggest that the attitudes of non-experts are particularly relevant to these problems. This gives rise to social epistemic risks; risks that involve the collective and social aspects of the formation of epistemic attitudes. Steering these epistemic attitudes as a way of handling these risks can take the form of creating what we call 'epistemic architecture'. That is, a planned design of the structure within which the formation of epistemic attitudes takes place. This entails risks of its own, which leads us to conclude that there is an important responsibility for experts to take these social epistemic risks into account when communicating on messy problems, such as ABR.

Conscientious objection is a critical topic that has been sparsely discussed from a global health perspective, despite its special relevance to our inherently diverse field. In this Analysis paper, we argue that blanket prohibitions of a specific type of non-discriminatory conscientious objection are unjustified in the global health context. We begin both by introducing a nuanced account of conscience that is grounded in moral psychology and by providing an overview of discriminatory and non-discriminatory forms of objection.

Indigenous populations show high prevalence rates of mental disorders and limited access to mental health services. The aim of this study was to analyze the mental health care trajectories of indigenous youth living in the Metropolitan Area of Oaxaca, Mexico. Epistemic injustice is an analytical framework that is used to describe a wrong done to someone in their capacity as a knower. Epistemic injustice is well-documented across the healthcare spectrum, particularly in relation to the patient's capacity to understand, and thus derive meaning from, the experience of illness.
