Random AlO nanoparticle-based polymer composite films are investigated as external scattering layers to enhance light extraction from flexible organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). We found that the size and concentration of the nanoparticles (NPs) in the polymer film play a crucial role in improving light extraction. It turned out that their increase has a favorable impact on the light output of the devices, as the high concentration of the NPs leads to the formation of large nanoparticle clusters, which, in turn, yield pore-containing films. As a result, light extraction efficiency of the flexible OLEDs on PEN substrates was enhanced by a factor of 1.65 by the incorporation of the scattering layer, with the highest AlO NP concentration of 99 wt%. This outcome is attributed to the reduction of the waveguide mode and total internal reflection at the substrate/air interface induced by the randomly distributed NPs in the flexible scattering layer. Our work demonstrates an efficient, solution-processable, and low-cost light-outcoupling structure for large-area and flexible OLED applications.

In this research, a green approach utilizing deep eutectic solvent liquid-liquid microextraction is combined with smartphone digital image colorimetry for the determination of boron in nut samples. A smartphone camera was used to capture the image of the analyte extract located in a custom-made colorimetric box. Using ImageJ software, the images were split into RGB channels, with the green channel identified as the optimum.

Sexual spores in mushrooms: bioactive compounds, factors and molecular mechanisms of spore formation.

Arch Microbiol

January 2025

Jiangsu Key Laboratory for the Research and Utilization of Plant Resources, Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing, 210014, China.

Throughout the life cycle of mushrooms, countless spores are released from the fruiting bodies. The spores have significant implications in the food and medicine industries due to pharmacological effects attributed to their bioactive ingredients. Moreover, high concentration of mushroom spores can induce extrinsic allergic reactions in mushroom cultivation workers.

The present study investigates the potential contribution of Photobiomodulation (PBM) to the regeneration of the bone following the extraction of the first mandibular molar in rats. The study evaluates the efficacy of PBM, using both Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) and Light-Emitting Diode Therapy (LEDT), as promotors of osteoblastic activity and the formation of new bone. Study design, setting, and sample: 45 male Wistar rats were divided randomly into three groups of 15 individuals - (i) control group (left lower molar removed only), (ii) the LLL group (molar removed, followed by LLLT), and (iii) the LED group (molar removed, followed by LEDT).

In Vitro Formation of Actin Ring in the Fission Yeast Cell Extracts.

Cytoskeleton (Hoboken)

January 2025

Department of Life Science, Faculty of Science, Gakushuin University, Mejiro, Tokyo, Japan.

Cytokinesis in animal and fungal cells requires the contraction of actomyosin-based contractile rings formed in the division cortex of the cell during late mitosis. However, the detailed mechanism remains incompletely understood. Here, we aim to develop a novel cell-free system by encapsulating cell extracts obtained from fission yeast cells within lipid vesicles, which subsequently leads to the formation of a contractile ring-like structure inside the vesicles.

Background: Interleukin-23 (IL-23) inhibitors and the IL-12/23 inhibitor ustekinumab constitute a pivotal class of therapeutic agents employed in the clinical management of Psoriasis, a chronic immune-mediated skin disorder. Notwithstanding their therapeutic efficacy, concerns have arisen due to the emergence of multiple adverse events (AEs) associated with their usage. This study aims to provide a comprehensive examination of the distribution and characteristics of these AEs concerning IL-23 and IL-12/23 inhibitors, with a specific focus on guselkumab, tildrakizumab, risankizumab, and ustekinumab.
