Sapovirus are important agents of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) and they are associated with outbreaks and sporadic cases worldwide. They infect people of all ages, but mainly children, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals are affected. The aim of this study was investigate sapovirus and to determine viral loads in fecal samples from patient undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Fecal samples were submitted to extraction of the genetic material using a commercial kit, and RT-qPCR TaqMan was used for sapovirus screening and determination of viral loads, using a standard curve with serial dilutions of a recombinant plasmid. Positive samples were sequence by Sanger method. Sapovirus was detected in one patient, 5.3% (1/19). Viral excretion lasted for 16 days. Viral load varied from 1.73 × 10 to 8.97 × 10 GC/g. One of the positive samples was characterized as GI.1 genotype. This is the first study to determine sapovirus loads in samples from allo-HSCT and to identify GI.1 genotype in immunocompromised patients.

In the Johor River Basin, a comprehensive analysis was conducted on 24 water environmental parameters across 33 sampling sites over 3 years, encompassing both dry and wet seasons. A total of 396 water samples were collected and analyzed to calculate the Water Quality Index (WQI). To further assess water quality and pinpoint potential pollution sources, multivariate techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA), alongside spatial analysis using inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation, were employed.

Human Aichi virus 1 (AiV-1) is a water- and food-borne infection-associated picornavirus that causes gastroenteritis in humans. Recent studies on environmental waters showed a high frequency and abundance of AiV-1, suggesting that it might be an appropriate indicator of fecal contamination. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether supplementation with probiotics over a 2-week period stabilizes the gut microbiota in dogs following prolonged cefovecin treatment. A significant number of clinical veterinarians prescribe oral probiotics to dogs in conjunction with systemic antibiotics with the intention of protecting against gut dysbiosis. The effects of antibiotics and probiotics in dogs have not been extensively studied, however, and the optimal treatment for gut dysbiosis remains uncertain.
