The structure and sequence elucidation of complex homo- and copolymers is key for further understanding polymers, polymer synthesis, and polymer interactions in biological processes. In this contribution, poly(dimethylacrylamide) homo- and dimethylacrylamide/4-acryloylmorpholine block copolymers were synthesized and analyzed by electron capture dissociation (ECD) and Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) tandem mass spectrometry. Double-resonance experiments were carried out, providing a better understanding of the fragmentation process. A novel radical dissociation process is presented, and electron capture caused a specific cleavage at the terminal butyl-trithiocarbonate group, which initiated a free radical dissociation process.

Copper-containing industrial wastewater, characterized by strong acidity, high ionic strength, and various competing metals, presents significant challenges for Cu(II) recovery. To address these issues, an electric field-enhanced ultrafiltration process was developed, assisted with a functional polyelectrolyte with high selectivity for Cu(II). The polyelectrolyte, termed PPEI, was synthesized by grafting picolyl groups onto polyethyleneimine (PEI), enhancing its affinity for Cu(II).

Nitrogen fixation is essential for the sustainable development of both human society and the environment. Due to the chemical inertness of the N≡N bond, the traditional Haber-Bosch process operates under extreme conditions, making nitrogen fixation under ambient conditions highly desirable but challenging. In this study, we present an ultrasonic atomizing microdroplet method that achieves nitrogen fixation using water and air under ambient conditions in a rationally designed sealed device, without the need for any catalyst.

The design and fabrication of nanocatalysts with high accessibility and sintering resistance remain significant challenges in heterogeneous electrocatalysis. Herein, a novel catalyst is introduced that combines electronic pumping with alloy crystal facet engineering. At the nanoscale, the electronic pump leverages the chemical potential difference to drive electron migration from one region to another, separating and transferring electron-hole pairs.

Ab Initio Study of Electron Capture in Collisions of Protons with CO Molecules.

Departamento de Química, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Cantoblanco, 28049 Madrid, Spain.

Ab initio calculations of cross sections for electron capture by protons in collisions with CO are carried out at energies between 100 eV/u and 50 keV/u, employing a semiclassical method within the Franck-Condon framework. The scattering wave function is expanded in a set of ab initio electronic wave functions of the HCO supermolecule. The calculation is performed on several trajectory orientations to obtain orientation-averaged total cross sections.

We aimed to explore the possibility of realizing a beam shaping assembly (BSA) driven by a 15-kW beam of 33-MeV electrons of an electron linear accelerator (LINAC) when a boronophenylalanine is adopted as a boron carrier. Simulation calculations were performed to design two types of BSAs driven by the small LINAC. The one was an experimental BSA, and the other was a high-performance BSA.
