Weighted mandibular complete denture fabricated by using selective laser melting: A clinical report.

Published: August 2021

The rehabilitation of patients with severely resorbed mandibular ridges can be a clinical challenge when rehabilitation with endosteal implants is not the elected treatment. Historically, weighted mandibular complete dentures have been used successfully to manage patients with severely resorbed ridges, and the weight of their cast metal has been calculated by using the weight of the wax and the density of the alloy. This clinical report presents the management of an 87-year-old woman with a severely resorbed mandibular ridge by using a weighted mandibular complete denture fabricated by using selective laser melting (SLM) technology in which the weight of the metal base was calculated by using the volume of the digital file used for manufacture.

The prevalence of oromaxillofacial fracture in pediatric patients is comparatively less than in adults, which could be due to several inconclusive factors, such as infrequent exposure to high-contact sports games, rash driving of vehicles and motorbikes, alcohol consumption, and fist fights for personal reasons under the influence of alcohol. More importantly, most of the time, children are under the care of their parents till they reach an age of maturity. One more thing that everyone believes even today is the elasticity nature of their bones as well as their body weight during their growing stage.

Mandibular trabecular bone pattern before and two years after medical or surgical obesity treatment in young Swedish women.

Clin Oral Investig

January 2025

Department of Behavioral and Community Dentistry, Institute of Odontology, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, P.O. Box 450, Gothenburg, SE-40530, Sweden.

Objective: To investigate if changes in body mass index (BMI) result in changes of the mandibular trabecular bone structure.

Materials And Methods: Females (18-35 years at baseline, mean BMI 42,3) were followed from before (n = 117) until two years (n = 66) after obesity treatment (medical or surgical). The mandibular bone trabeculation was classified as sparse, dense, or mixed on intraoral radiographs (Lindh's index).

Bayesian network for predicting mandibular third molar extraction difficulty.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

Sub-Institute of Public Safety Standardization, China National Institute of Standardization, No.4 Zhichun Road, Haidian District, Beijing, 100191, PR China.

Background: This study aimed to establish a model for predicting the difficulty of mandibular third molar extraction based on a Bayesian network to meet following requirements: (1) analyse the interaction of the primary risk factors; (2) output quantitative difficulty-evaluation results based on the patient's personal situation; and (3) identify key surgical points and propose surgical protocols to decrease complications.

Methods: Relevant articles were searched to identify risk factors. Clinical knowledge and experience were used to analyse the risk factors to establish the Bayesian network.

Aim: This study aimed to explore the possible bidirectional interrelations between fructose-induced metabolic syndrome (MS) and apical periodontitis (AP).

Methodology: Twenty-eight male Wistar rats were distributed into four groups (n = 7, per group): Control (C), AP, Fructose Consumption (FRUT) and Fructose Consumption and AP (FRUT+AP). The rats in groups C and AP received filtered water, while those in groups FRUT and FRUT+AP received a 20% fructose solution mixed with water to induce MS.

This meta-analysis compares the accuracy of mandible-first and maxilla-first approaches in bimaxillary orthognathic surgery to improve clinical decision-making. A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane databases up to August 2024. The analysis included randomized controlled trials and cohort studies with a minimum of 10 patients.
