Consideration is given to the tissues at risk in bone and a Monte Carlo method is described which determines the absorbed dose to endosteal tissues and marrow in trabecular bone. The method synthesizes random tracks through the trabecular structures that deposit energy along a path through any given trabecular cavity. The path lengths through the trabeculae and marrow cavities are measured with a bone-scanning microscope and other bone data, such as trabecular surface areas, can also be derived. Results are given for human bones and for bones of the beagle, miniature pig and rhesus monkey. They show that, for the same radionuclide concentration, the doses to endosteal tissues and bone marrow are several times greater in animal than in human bone, and that higher doses in human bone from the Ca and Sr radionuclides are obtained if the initial deposition on bone surfaces is allowed for. Other studies show that the occurrence of osteosarcoma in the human long bones correlates well with trabecular surface area and also that, unlike the case of beta-particles from 90Sr+90Y, leukaemia is not a significant consequence of the alpha-particle doses from 226Ra in human bone or from 226Ra, 239Pu and other alpha emitters in beagle bone.

Tailgut cyst is an exceedingly rare congenital anomaly originating from embryonic remnants of the tailgut. Owing to its asymptomatic nature in the early stages, it is prone to clinical misdiagnosis. We present a case of a 55-year-old female with initial symptoms manifesting as sacrococcygeal pain.

As humans age, they experience deformity and a decrease in their bone strength, such brittleness in the bones ultimately lead to bone fracture. Magnetic field exposure combined with physical exercise may be useful in mitigating age-related bone loss by improving the canalicular fluid motion within the bone's lacuno-canalicular system (LCS). Nevertheless, an adequate amount of fluid induced shear stress is necessary for the bone mechano-transduction and solute transport in the case of brittle bone diseases.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare, life-threatening syndrome of excessive immune activation, leading to severe inflammation and organ damage. While more common in infants, HLH can occur at any age and is often triggered by infections such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). In this case, a 38-year-old man presented with a three-week history of fevers, night sweats, poor appetite, and severe anemia.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the optimum frequency of oscillatory fluid flow (OFF) for increasing osteogenesis in human dental pulp cells (DPCs) in an incubating rocking shaker. DPCs from 3 donors were cultured in an osteogenic induction medium (OIM) and mechanical stimulation was applied using an incubating rocking shaker at frequencies of 0 (control), 10, 20, 30, and 40 round per minute (RPM) for 1 h/day, 5 days/week. Cell proliferation was measured using total protein quantification, and osteogenic activity was measured by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, calcium deposition, and collagen production on days 7, 14, and 21 of culture.

This study aims to analyze the impact of muscle transfer on the glenohumeral joint in children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) using MRI by comparing preoperative and 5-year follow-up postoperative imaging findings to determine whether tendon transfers affect the alignment and configuration of the glenohumeral joint. Ten children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) participated in our prospective observational study, and we performed a tendon transfer technique. Every patient had an MRI of both shoulders done at preoperative and at the 5-year mark following the procedure.
