Background: Tissue adhesive (TiA), adhesive tape (AdT), and sutures can be used to close surgical wounds and lacerations in children. However, it is unclear which technique produces the best results.
Methods: In this prospectively registered study, the PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Centre for Reviews and Dissemination Database, and ScienceDirect databases were searched. English language studies published between January 1980 and August 2017 evaluating TiA and/or AdT for primary skin closure of surgical wounds or lacerations in patients aged ≤18 years were included. Study endpoints included clinician-rated wound cosmesis and incidence of wound complications.
Results: Thirty-one studies were included in the systematic review and 16 studies in the meta-analysis. Amongst heterogeneous studies, AdT yielded marginally better cosmetic outcomes than TiA (p = 0.04). There was no difference in cosmesis between sutured wounds and those closed with TiA (p = 0.2). No difference in overall risk of wound infection or dehiscence was identified when comparing TiA with AdT (p = 0.3), and TiA with sutures (p = 0.9 and 0.3 respectively).
Conclusions: TiA, AdT, and sutures can all be used for wound closure with equivalent risk of wound infection and dehiscence. AdT appears to convey better cosmesis. Further adequately powered studies directly comparing techniques are required.
Levels Of Evidence: Level IV.

Acute gastric variceal bleeding is a rare but serious complication of portal hypertension. Initial therapy for bleeding gastric varices focuses on acute hemostasis. In this regard, endoscopic cyanoacrylate injection (ECI) is the first-line approach.

Effective glycemic control is paramount for optimal wound healing in diabetic patients. Traditional antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatments, while important, often fall short in addressing the hyperglycemic conditions of diabetic wounds. Therefore, the development of novel therapeutic strategies for accelerating diabetic wound healing has garnered escalating attention.

Periodontal surgery often necessitates the use of a periodontal dressing to protect the surgical site and facilitate healing. Commonly used dressings, such as noneugenol packs, offer some benefits but have significant drawbacks, including plaque accumulation, a sensation of foreignness, and no significant impact on healing enhancement. On the other hand, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) membranes are rich in growth factors, which can accelerate wound healing and tissue regeneration.

Introduction: There is a risk of iatrogenic vascular injuries during robotic-assisted laparoscopic excision of diaphragmatic endometriosis. Although studies are limited, the first reported case of a suprahepatic inferior vena cava (IVC) injury during robotic diaphragmatic endometriosis excision was successfully treated using a fibrin sealant patch, preventing exsanguination and conversion to laparotomy.
Case Description: A 36-year-old female with a history of recurrent catamenial pneumothorax and two prior video-assisted thoracoscopic surgeries to treat diaphragmatic endometriosis presented to our clinic with right-sided shoulder pain and a chest tube in place.

Background: It remains unclear whether the addition of non-selective beta-blockers (NSBB) provides further benefit after combined use of tissue adhesive and endoscopic variceal ligation for bleeding gastroesophageal varices.
Objective: This is the first cohort study comparing the secondary prophylactic efficacy of adding NSBB to combined endoscopic treatment in cirrhotic patients with gastric varices (without inclusion of isolated gastric varices [IGVs], which are rare in patients with cirrhosis without splanchnic thrombosis).
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed two matched large cohorts of cirrhotic patients with gastric varices who received combined endoscopic treatment and were assigned to receive NSBB treatment or not as secondary prophylaxis.
