A model for the heterogeneity of local dynamics in polymer and other glass-forming materials is provided here. The fundamental characteristics of the glass transition phenomenology emerge when simulating a condensed matter open cluster that has a strong interaction with its heterogeneous environment. General glass transition features, such as non-exponential structural relaxations, the slowing down of relaxation times with temperature and specific off-equilibrium glassy dynamics can be reproduced by non-Markovian dynamics simulations with the minimum computer resources. Non-Markovian models are shown to be useful tools for obtaining insights into the complex dynamics involved in the glass transition phenomenon, including whether or not there is a need for a growing correlation length or the relationship between the non-exponentiality of structural relaxations and dynamic heterogeneity.

0D hybrid metal halide (HMH) luminescent glasses have garnered significant attentions for its chemical diversity in optoelectronic applications and it also retains the skeleton connectivity and coordination mode of the crystalline counterparts while exhibiting various physics/chemistry characteristics distinct from the crystalline states. However, understanding of the glass-forming ability and the specific structural origins underpinning the luminescent properties of 0D HMH glasses remains elusive. In this review, it is started from the solid-liquid phase transition and thermodynamic analysis of 0D HMHs formed through melt-quenching, and summarize the current compounds capable of stably forming glassy phases via chemical structural design.

Poly(lactide) (PLA) is a promising biodegradable polymer with potential applications in single-use packaging. However, its use is limited by brittleness, and its biodegradability is restricted to industrial compost conditions due in part to an elevated glass transition temperature (). We previously showed that addition of a poly(ethylene-oxide)--poly(butylene oxide) diblock copolymer (PEO-PBO) forms macrophase-separated rubbery domains in PLA that can impart significant toughness at only 5 wt %.
