Unlabelled: Upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (UEDVT) is relatively rare, and much less as an initial presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Primary UEDVT should be considered in individuals with unilateral arm swelling where the brachial, axillary, and subclavian veins are frequently involved. SLE is a chronic autoimmune disease that predominantly affects women of childbearing age and of African descent.

Evaluation of objective methods for analyzing ipsilateral motor evoked potentials in stroke survivors with chronic upper extremity motor impairment.

J Neural Eng

January 2025

Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, MetroHealth Medical Center, 4229 Pearl Road, Suite N4-13, Cleveland, Ohio, 44109-1998, UNITED STATES.

Ipsilateral motor evoked potentials (iMEPs) are believed to represent cortically evoked excitability of uncrossed brainstem-mediated pathways. In the event of extensive injury to (crossed) corticospinal pathways, which can occur following a stroke, uncrossed ipsilateral pathways may serve as an alternate resource to support the recovery of the paretic limb. However, iMEPs, even in neurally intact people, can be small, infrequent, and noisy, so discerning them in stroke survivors is very challenging.

Background: Approximately half of the patients with acute ischemic stroke who receive intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) do not achieve an excellent outcome. Remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) as a promising neuroprotective treatment may improve clinical outcomes in this population. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of RIC in patients with IVT.

: In 2021, the Food and Drug Administration approved liposomal bupivacaine injectable suspension for single-dose infiltration in patients ≥ 6 years of age. Liposomal bupivacaine and bupivacaine hydrochloride admixtures may also be administered off-label for pediatric regional anesthesia including peripheral nerve blocks (PNBs). This single-injection, long-acting technique is not well described in pediatrics but may have benefits over traditional continuous catheter-based systems.

: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection to the subacromial-subdeltoid bursa (SSB) and coracohumeral ligament (CHL) in treating adhesive capsulitis, with a particular focus on evaluating the potential benefits of regular electrotherapy and conventional rehabilitation exercises. : A total of 29 patients with unilateral shoulder pain and restricted shoulder range of motion (ROM) were included. Corticosteroids were delivered to the subacromial-subdeltoid bursa (SSB) and coracohumeral ligament (CHL) through a single percutaneous injection.
