The effect of scintillator particle size on high-resolution X-ray imaging was studied using zinc tungstate (ZnWO) particles. The ZnWO particles were fabricated through a solid-state reaction between zinc oxide and tungsten oxide at various temperatures, producing particles with average sizes of 176.4 nm, 626.7 nm, and 2.127 μm; the zinc oxide and tungsten oxide were created using anodization. The spatial resolutions of high-resolution X-ray images, obtained from utilizing the fabricated particles, were determined: particles with the average size of 176.4 nm produced the highest spatial resolution. The results demonstrate that high spatial resolution can be obtained from ZnWO nanoparticle scintillators that minimize optical diffusion by having a particle size that is smaller than the emission wavelength.

Zinc tungstate (ZnWO) shows great promise as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to its reversible multi-electron redox reactions and high theoretical capacity. Nevertheless, the low conductivity and big strain during cycling can lead to the inferior electrochemical properties of the ZnWO anode, hindering its practical application. Herein, we report a novel composite with ZnWO/ZnO porous nanoplates in-situ constructed on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) by a metal-organic framework template strategy.

Article Synopsis
  • ZnWO nanoparticles (ZnWO-NPs) are used in various applications like sensors, lasers, and batteries, but their effects on aquatic ecosystems remain unclear.
  • This study is the first to assess the toxicity of ZnWO-NPs on the green microalga Raphidocelis subcapitata, revealing growth inhibition and changes in photosynthesis at specific concentrations.
  • The findings indicate that high levels of ZnWO-NPs can disrupt biochemical processes in microalgae, which could have broader implications for aquatic food chains and ecosystem health.

The frequent use of an industrial dye such as malachite green (MG) has caused major water body deterioration and is one of the most pressing global challenges, demanding effective treatment techniques. To solve these issues, a simplistic method was developed to synthesize zinc-tungstate (ZnWO) nanoparticles and also dope the surface matrix of the ZnWO nanoparticles using nonmetals of boron (B), carbon (C), and nitrogen (N) at different ratios for enhanced MG removal from wastewater. The prepared nanomaterials were characterized by different methods for crystal structure composition, surface properties, surface morphology, microstructures, functional groups, and elemental oxidation states.

The novel ternary photoanode was successfully prepared by Bi nanoparticles (Bi NPs) modified on type II heterojunction of WO-ZnWO using the simple and effective drop casting and chemical impregnation methods. The photoelectrochemical (PEC) experimental tests revealed that the photocurrent density of the ternary photoanode of WO/ZnWO(2)/Bi NPs reaches 3.0 mA/cm at 1.
