In this Letter, we report the experimental observations of a tunable curved photonic nanojet (photonic hook) generated by a 5 µm polydimethylsiloxane microcylinder deposited on a silicon substrate and illuminated by 405 nm laser beam. A moveable opaque aluminum-mask is mounted in front of the microcylinder implementing partial illumination and imparting spatial curvature to the photonic nanojet. Experimental results of main parameters (tilt angle, width, and intensity) of emerging photonic hooks exhibit close agreement with numerical predictions of the near-field optical structures. The experimentally measured full widths at half-maximum of photonic hooks are 0.48, 0.56, and 0.76 for tilt angles of =0, 5.7°, and 20.1°, respectively. Photonic hooks possess great potential in complex manipulation such as super-resolution imaging, surface fabrication, and optomechanical manipulation along curved trajectories.

A dual fan-shaped structure covered with Ag films was investigated for generating twin photonic hooks (t-PHs). The t-PH characteristics of this structure are studied using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. The results show that by designing appropriate fan-shaped opening angles and angles of Ag films coverage, the switching between t-PHs, S-shaped t-PHs, and W-shaped t-PHs can be achieved, along with controlling over the bending angles.

A species of genus Panagrellus was discovered from a wet season form of an oriental common evening brown butterfly Melanitis leda. In this study, a detailed description of Panagrellus ceylonensis is provided including the morphometry, light microscopy and molecular (18S and 28S rDNA genes) studies. Morphological studies on the species agree with original description and characterized by having 12501481m long body in females and 9491305m in males, lateral fields with four longitudinal incisures, lip region continuous and 811 m wide, six offset lips with protruding labial sensilla, neck 124173 m long, excretory pore at the level of basal bulb, vulva post-equatorial (V = 6871), vagina anteriorly orientated with heavily muscled vaginal walls, post-vulval uterine sac 111135 m long or 1.

Microsphere-assisted super-resolution imaging is a promising technique that can significantly enhance the resolution of conventional optical microscopes. The focus of a classical microsphere is called photonic nanojet, which is a symmetric high-intensity electromagnetic field. Recently, patchy microspheres have been reported to have superior imaging performance than pristine microspheres, and coating microspheres with metal films leads to the formation of photonic hooks, which can enhance the imaging contrast of microspheres.

Super-resolution confocal live imaging microscopy (SCLIM) we developed provides high-speed, high-resolution, three- and four-dimensional, and multicolor simultaneous imaging. Using this technology, we are now able to observe the fine details of various dynamic events going on in living cells, such as membrane traffic and organelle dynamics. The retention using selective hooks (RUSH) system is a powerful tool to control synchronous release of natural cargo proteins of interest from the endoplasmic reticulum in mammalian cells.

Owing to its crooked trajectory and small full width at half-maximum, photonic hook (PH) has attracted wide attention since its inception and experimental confirmation. However, the present generation and regulation of PH are mostly dependent on the breaking of the symmetry of the system composed of the incident light and the regular structure particles, which inevitably limits the research of PH. In this work, the PH of the irregular particles is demonstrated with the help of a structure-constrained function (SCF).
