Health care workers are at risk of infection from aerosolization of respiratory secretions, droplet and contact spread. This has gained great importance after the COVID19 pandemic. Intra-operative aerosol-generating procedures are arguably unavoidable in the routine provision of thoracic anesthesia.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFEvolving technology and the development of new devices that can aerosolize water present a risk for new sources of Legionella bacteria growth and spread within industrial settings. We investigated a cluster of legionellosis among employees of a manufacturing facility in South Carolina, USA, and found 2 unique equipment sources of Legionella bacteria. The cluster of cases took place during August-November 2022; a total of 34 cases of legionellosis, including 15 hospitalizations and 2 deaths, were reported.

Abdominoplasty is a common aesthetic surgical procedure primarily performed under general anesthesia (GA). However, GA is aerosol-generating and involves extended immobilization associated with systemic complications like venous thromboembolisms (VTEs). There is increasing interest in performing abdominoplasties without GA because of potential lower complication rates and shorter postoperative recovery time.

Background: This study was conducted to assess the effects of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on dental healthcare workers (DHCWs) during the pandemic. Due to frequent exposure to aerosol-generating procedures, DHCWs are at an increased risk of a SARS-CoV-2 infection, increasing their mortality risk. Therefore, this retrospective study aimed to ascertain the mortality of DHCWs attributable to SARS-CoV-2 infection from databases in the public domain during the pandemic.
