The Value of Cellblock in Diagnosing Pancreatic Lymphomas.

Published: January 2021

Background: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is the diagnostic tool of choice for pancreatic solid mass lesions. Pancreatic lymphomas represent an infrequent and challenging cytologic diagnosis. Our aim was to determine the diagnostic value of cellblock (CB) in the diagnosis of pancreatic lymphomas.

Methods: We retrieved pancreatic EUS-FNAs performed over 10-years from our institution's database. We correlated the cytologic and CB diagnosis with the histologic diagnosis as a gold standard.

Results: We found 5 cases (2 women and 3 men; age range, 37-66 years [average age, 52 years]) of pancreatic lymphomas with histologic follow-up biopsies. They included 1 case of T-cell lymphoma (TCL), 1 case of plasma cell neoplasm (multiple myeloma [MM]), 1 case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), 1 case of classic Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), and 1 case of high-grade B-cell lymphoma (HGBCL). Cytologically, the cases of HL and DLBCL were suspected, the cases of TCL and MM were confused with undifferentiated carcinoma and neuroendocrine carcinoma, and the case of HGBCL was inconclusive. CB samples were of value in highlighting the morphologic details of lymphomas and allowed confirmation, proper classification, and grading of the lymphomas using immunohistochemistry that matched tissue biopsies.

Conclusions: EUS-FNA smears with CBs are helpful diagnostic tools, differentiating lymphomas from other malignancies and from nonneoplastic lymphocyte-rich lesions. CBs allow proper classification and grading of cases of pancreatic lymphomas.

Update on the Progress of Musashi-2 in Malignant Tumors.

Front Biosci (Landmark Ed)

January 2025

Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Shanxi Bethune Hospital, Shanxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Tongji Shanxi Hospital, Third Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, 030032 Taiyuan, Shanxi, China.

Since the discovery of the Musashi (MSI) protein, its ability to affect the mitosis of Drosophila progenitor cells has garnered significant interest among scientists. In the following 20 years, it has lived up to expectations. A substantial body of evidence has demonstrated that it is closely related to the development, metastasis, migration, and drug resistance of malignant tumors.

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder whose prevalence increases every year, affecting more than 530 million adults worldwide. Type 1 (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D), the most common forms of diabetes, are characterized by the loss of functional pancreatic β-cells, mostly due to apoptosis. B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and B-cell lymphoma-extra large (Bcl-xL), two anti-apoptotic proteins belonging to the Bcl-2 family, are crucial for regulating the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis.

Department of Hematology, Catholic University Lymphoma Group, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea, Banpo-daero 222, Seocho-Gu, Seoul 06591, Republic of Korea.

: In this single-center retrospective study, we aimed to verify the extent of duodenal follicular lymphoma (DFL) and investigate the role and clinical significance of video capsule endoscopy (VCE) in the treatment process. : We analyzed the clinical and imaging data of 40 patients diagnosed with DFL. : Imaging workup and bone marrow biopsies revealed DFL only in the gastrointestinal tract (stage I) in 22 patients and in local lymph nodes (stage II), distant lymph nodes (stage II), pancreas (stage IIE), and extranodal regions (stage IV) in 1, 3, 1, and 13 patients, respectively.

Department of Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery, Xuzhou First People's Hospital, The Affiliated Hospital of China University of Mining and Technology, The Affiliated Xuzhou Municipal Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, Xuzhou, Jiangsu, China.

Objective: To explore the role of Tiam1 in proliferation, invasion, and migration of pancreatic cancer.

Significance: Previous studies have shown that T-cell lymphoma invasion and metastasis-inducing factor 1 (Tiam1) is involved in multiple tumor progression. However, the role and molecular mechanism of this molecule in pancreatic cancer remain unclear.

Follicular lymphoma (FL) outcomes are heavily influenced by host immune activity with immune anti-tumor activity mitigated by PD-1/PD-L1 pathway engagement. Combination CD20-directed therapy plus PD-1 inhibition (PD-1i) increases T-cell tumor killing and NK-cell antibody-dependent cell cytotoxicity (ADCC). Mounting evidence supports immune-priming using PD-1i before cancer-directed agents.
