Introduction: With the continuous progress being made in medicine and surgery, increasingly more advanced technology and monitoring equipment are being used in anesthesia, end-tidal carbon dioxide (PETCO ) monitoring revealed serious complications of cardiothoracic surgery.
Case Presentation: A 3-year-old boy with a body weight of 15 kg presented with a >1-month history of a heart murmur. At the moment of arterial catheter ligation, the PETCO decreased from 37 to 15 mmHg, while the blood pressure, heart rate, and airway resistance did not change significantly. After re-separation of the ligation catheter, the surgeons carefully exposed the ductus and left pulmonary artery again and ligated the ductus arteriosus.
Conclusion: This case suggests that PETCO monitoring reflects the circulatory status and pulmonary blood flow.

Objective: To assess the predictive effects of end-tidal carbon dioxide partial pressure (PETCO) in combination with pH measurement in confirming gastric tube placement in neurologically critical patients.
Methods: This study included 105 patients with gastric tubes placed in the neurological intensive care unit of Henan Provincial People's Hospital between November 2023 and April 2024. By employing X-ray as a gold standard, we compared the predictive value of PETCO, pH testing, or PETCO in combination with pH measurement on the position of the tubes.

Background Neonatal vascular air embolism is a rare but often fatal condition. The literature comprises mostly case reports and a few dated systematic reviews. Our objective was to review all case reports of neonatal vascular air embolism to date, and provide up-to-date information about patient characteristics, clinical presentations, outcomes, pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and prognosis.

Peripheral endothelial function, which accounts for the variability in shear stimulus, can be assessed using shear-mediated dilation normalized to the increased shear stimulus. Similarly, shear-mediated dilation of the internal carotid artery (ICA), an index of cerebrovascular endothelial function, should be normalized to increased shear stimulus. However, this approach has not yet been validated.

Dynamic resistance exercise (RE) produces sinusoidal fluctuations in blood pressure, with hypotension and cerebral hypoperfusion commonly observed immediately following RE. Whether the cerebral vasculature adapts to these regular blood pressure challenges is unclear. This study examined the cerebrovascular response to post-dynamic RE orthostasis.

Background: Patients receiving intraoperative ventilation during general anesthesia often have low end-tidal CO (etCO). We examined the association of intraoperative etCO levels with the occurrence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) in a conveniently-sized international, prospective study named 'Local ASsessment of Ventilatory management during General Anesthesia for Surgery' (LAS VEGAS).
Methods: Patients at high risk of PPCs were categorized as 'low etCO' or 'normal to high etCO' patients, using a cut-off of 35 mmHg.
