Research Question: to describe and investigate the case of an 11-year-old boy with the concomitant pneumocephalus, subcutaneous- and orbitopalpebral emphysema after the removal of a giant meningioma. Furthermore, our aim is to discuss the findings and the pathophysiology in relation to cases found in literature.
Material And Methods: We performed a search in PubMed, Cochrane, MEDLINE and Google Scholar by the usage of the words orbital or periorbital, combined with emphysema and neurosurgery.

: Surgery for adolescent idiopathic deformities is often aimed at improving aesthetic appearance, striving for the best possible correction. However, severe and rigid scoliotic curves not only present aesthetic issues but can also compromise cardiopulmonary health and cause early neurological impairment due to spinal cord compression, posing significant risks of morbidity and mortality if untreated. Conservative treatments are ineffective for severe curves, defined by scoliotic angles over 70° and flexibility below 30% on lateral bending X-rays.

Hypertension, if untreated, can disrupt the blood-brain-barrier (BBB) and reduce cerebral flow in the central nervous system (CNS) inducing hippocampal atrophy, potentially leading to cognitive deficits and vascular dementia. Spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR) demonstrated neuroplastic alterations in the hippocampus, hyperlocomotion and memory deficits in males.
