Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the association between the implementation of abdominal angiography and outcome among pediatric patients with blunt splenic or hepatic injury.
Methods: This was a retrospective observational study, with a study period of 14 years, from January 2004 to December 2017. Blunt-trauma patients with splenic or hepatic injury who were less than 19 years old were included in this study. We used propensity-score-(PS) matching analysis to assess the relationship between abdominal angiography and in-hospital mortality.
Results: In total, 639 patients were eligible for analysis, with 257 patients included in the abdominal-angiography group and 382 patients in the no-abdominal-angiography group. After PS matching, 224 patients from each group were selected. In the PS matched patients, in-hospital mortality was lower in the abdominal-angiography group than in the no-abdominal-angiography group (4.9% vs. 11.2%, odds ratio 0.416, 95% confidence interval 0.177-0.903).
Conclusion: In this population, the implementation of abdominal angiography was significantly associated with lower in-hospital mortality among pediatric patients with blunt splenic or hepatic injury compared with nonimplementation of abdominal angiography.
Type Of Study: Prognosis study.
Level Of Evidence: III.

Acute pancreatitis, a sudden inflammatory condition, can lead to a hypercoagulable state resulting in complications such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE). This case report discusses a unique presentation of a massive PE in a patient with acute pancreatitis despite being on appropriate prophylactic anticoagulation. A 27-year-old man presented with acute abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.

This is a case report of a 54-year-old patient with hepatocellular cancer under palliative chemotherapy who admitted with dyspnea on minimal exertion and peripheral oedema over the past 5 days. Echocardiogram revealed a large echogenic mass in the right atrial cavity which did not enhance with intravenous echo contrast agent, and a distended inferior vena cava (IVC) which was occluded by echogenic material with no signs of flow. To distinguish with accuracy if the thrombus was a bland or tumor thrombus, contrast-enhanced Computed Tomography (CT) was performed.

Background: Giant coronary artery aneurysms are rare conditions with potentially devastating consequences. We report a case of the largest documented giant right coronary artery (RCA) aneurysm to date.
Case Presentation: A 57-year-old male patient visited our outpatient clinic for abdominal pain and exertional dyspnea.

A search in Scopus within "Article title, Abstract, Keywords" unveils 2,444 documents focused on the biomechanics of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), mostly on AAA wall stress. Only 24 documents investigated AAA kinematics, an important topic that could potentially offer significant insights into the biomechanics of AAA. In this paper, we present an image-based approach for patient-specific, in vivo, and non-invasive AAA kinematic analysis using patient's time-resolved 3D computed tomography angiography (4D-CTA) images, with an objective to measure wall displacement and strain during the cardiac cycle.

Spontaneous non-aneurysmal aortic rupture is rare and is usually attributed to penetrating aortic ulcers, infections, tumor infiltrations, or inflammatory and collagen diseases. Chronic rupture is infrequent but extremely rare in non-aneurysmal aortas, which makes diagnosis difficult because the absence of an aneurysm can mislead the physician to rule out rupture. Here, we describe the case of an 85-year-old male, who was undergoing oncological investigation for weight loss, inappetence, and back pain.
