The gaseous phytohormone ethylene influences many aspects of plant life, including germination, fruit ripening, senescence, and stress responses. These diverse roles of ethylene occur in part through crosstalk with other phytohormones, which affects ethylene biosynthesis and signaling pathways. We have recently shown that the phytohormones, including gibberellic acid, abscisic acid, auxin, methyl jasmonate, and salicylic acid, regulate the stability of ACC synthases (ACSs), the rate-limiting enzymes in ethylene biosynthesis. Here, we report that treatment of etiolated Arabidopsis seedlings with strigolactone (SL) increases ethylene biosynthesis. SL does not influence ACS stability or gene expression, but it increases the transcript levels of a subset of ACC oxidase () genes, thereby enhancing ethylene biosynthesis. Taken together with the results of our previous study, these findings demonstrate that most phytohormones differentially regulate ethylene biosynthesis in dark-grown Arabidopsis seedlings by affecting ACS stability and/or the transcript levels of ethylene biosynthesis genes.

The secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is promoted by various nutrients, and glucose and fructose stimulate GLP-1 secretion via intracellular metabolism. D-Allulose (allulose), a non-metabolizable epimer of D-fructose, is also effective in stimulating GLP-1 secretion, although its underlying mechanism remains unclear. We previously observed intestinal distension after the oral administration of allulose, accompanied by increased GLP-1 secretion in rats, possibly because of the low or slow absorbability of allulose.

Few studies have explored the impact of blue light-emitting diode (BL) irradiation combined with different storage temperatures on antioxidant defense and cell wall metabolic activities related to the quality deterioration of postharvest strawberries. This study investigates the effects of BL exposure as a non-chemical preservation strategy to improve the postharvest quality of strawberries stored at 22 °C and 8 °C. Over a 10-day storage period, BL irradiation significantly reduced respiratory and ethylene production rates, while preserving fruit firmness and increasing the contents of soluble sugar and total phenol at both temperatures.
