Dredging in estuarine systems significantly impacts phytoplankton communities, with suspended particulate matter (SPM) and dissolved aluminum (Al) serving as indicators of disturbance intensity. This study assessed the effects of dredging in the São Marcos Estuarine Complex (SMEC), Brazil, over three distinct events (2015, 2017, 2020), involving varying sediment volumes and climatic influences. Prolonged dredging operations and increased sediment volumes led to a pronounced 43.

Dipole Potential of Monolayers with Biologically Relevant Lipid Compositions.

Molecules

December 2024

Coimbra Chemistry Center, Institute of Molecular Sciences (CQC-IMS), University of Coimbra, 3004-535 Coimbra, Portugal.

The membrane dipole potential that arises from the interfacial water and constitutive dipolar groups of lipid molecules modulates the interaction of amphiphiles and proteins with membranes. Consequently, its determination for lipid mixtures resembling the existing diversity in biological membranes is very relevant. In this work, the dipole potentials of monolayers, formed at the air-water interface, from pure or mixed lipids (1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl--glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC), 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl--glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (POPE), 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl--glycero-3-phosphatidyserine (POPS), sphingomyelin (SpM) and cholesterol) were measured and correlated with the mean area per lipid.

(1) Background: Impeded resolution of inflammation contributes substantially to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD); consequently, resolving inflammation is pivotal to the amelioration of AD pathology. This can potentially be achieved by the treatment with specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs), which should resolve neuroinflammation in brains. (2) Methods: Here, we report the histological effects of long-term treatment with an SPM, maresin-like 1 (MarL1), on AD pathogenesis in a transgenic 5xFAD mouse model.

Aim: To determine the frequency and characteristics of Dense Bone Islands (DBIs) in a paediatric population residing in Chandigarh, India.

Methodology: A total of 3614 orthopantomographs (OPG) of children between the age group of 6-18 years were collected from the database of patients who underwent panoramic radiography for routine dental treatment during the period of 2018-2020. The shape, location of the lesion, and relationship of the Dense Bone Island with the tooth were identified.

Background: The advancement of early detection and treatment has brought about a significant concern for male breast cancer (MBC) survivors-the emergence of a second primary malignancy (SPM) poses a grave threat to their lives. Among them, second primary prostate cancer (spPCa) holds particular significance. This study aimed to investigate the impact of spPCa on the prognosis of MBC patients.
