Vertebrate brain function is particularly sensitive to the effects of hypoxia, with even brief periods of oxygen deprivation causing significant brain damage and impaired cognitive abilities. This study is the first to investigate the cognitive consequences of hypoxia in fish, specifically induced by exhaustive exercise and air exposure, conditions commonly encountered during catch-and-release (C&R) practices in recreational fishing. Angling exerts substantial pressure on inland fish populations, underscoring the need for sustainable practices like C&R.

Many parts of the USA continue to move towards tremendous societal progression of supporting LGBTQ + marriage and family planning. However, there are other areas, including many states within the southern region of the USA, which tend to be less progressive and more resistant towards this subject matter. Background: Canada's health care systems underserve people who are transgender and gender diverse (TGD), leading to unique disparities not experienced by other patient groups, such as in accessing gender-affirmation surgery. We sought to explore the experiences of TGD people seeking and accessing gender-affirmation surgery at a publicly funded hospital in Canada to identify opportunities to improve the current system.
Methods: We used hermeneutic phenomenology according to Max van Manen to conduct this qualitative study.
