Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignant tumour in women worldwide, and one of the most common fatal tumours in women. Delta/Notch-like epidermal growth factor (EGF)-related receptor (DNER) is a transmembrane protein involved in the development of tumours. The role and potential mechanism of DNER in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and apoptosis in BC are not fully understood. We find that DNER is overexpressed in BC tissue, especially triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) tissue, and related to the survival of BC and TNBC patients. In addition, DNER regulates cell EMT to enhance the proliferation and metastasis of BC cells via the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, the expression levels of β-catenin and DNER in BD tissue are positively correlated. The simultaneously high expression of DNER and β-catenin contributes to poor prognosis in BC patients. Finally, DNER protects BC cells from epirubicin-induced growth inhibition and apoptosis via the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. In conclusion, these results suggest that DNER induces EMT and prevents apoptosis by the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, ultimately promoting the malignant progression of BC. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that DNER functions as an oncogene and potentially valuable therapeutic target for BC.

This study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of water-dispersible hesperetin (WD-Hpt) in an endotoxin-induced uveitis (EIU) rat model. The rats were orally administered 10, 25, or 50 mg/kg WD-Hpt immediately after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection at the concentration of 200 μg. Clinical scores, cellular inflammation, the aqueous humor (ApH) protein concentration, as well as the levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) in AqH, and histopathological grades were assessed.

Signals from the lens regulate multiple aspects of eye development, including establishment of eye size, patterning of the presumptive iris and ciliary body in the anterior optic cup and migration and differentiation of neural crest cells. To advance understanding of the molecular mechanism by which the lens regulates eye development, we performed transcriptome profiling of embryonic chicken retinas after lens removal. Genes associated with nervous system development were upregulated in lens-removed eyes, but the presumptive ciliary body and iris region did not adopt a neural retina identity following lens removal.

Purpose: Chronic inflammation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of choroidal neovascularization (CNV). This study aimed to investigate the effect of the CHF5074, a γ-secretase inhibitor, on angiogenesis in a laser-induced CNV model and elucidate its possible molecular mechanism.
