Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) provide diverse applications across a wide range of scientific disciplines, including drug/nucleic acid (NA) delivery. In the subclass of MOFs, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is well regarded due to its exceptional physicochemical properties. Biomolecules can be encapsulated and released under precise conditions within ZIF, making it an important material for materials science and biomedical applications.

Molecular Simulation Study of All-Silica Zeolites for the Adsorptive Removal of Airborne Chloroethenes.

Langmuir

January 2025

Faculty of Geosciences, University of Bremen, Klagenfurter Straße 2-4, Bremen 28359, Germany.

Chloroethenes (CHCl with = 1, 2, 3, 4) are produced and consumed in various industrial processes. As the release of these compounds into air, water, and soils can pose significant risks to human health and the environment, different techniques have been exploited to prevent or remediate chloroethene pollution. Although several previous experimental and computational studies investigated the removal of chloroethenes using zeolite adsorbents, their structural diversity in terms of pore size and pore topology has hardly been explored so far.

Amyloid beta (Aβ) fibrillation kinetics and its impact on membrane polarity.

J Bioenerg Biomembr

January 2025

Division of Chemical Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University, 1-3 Machikaneyamacho, Toyonaka, Osaka, 560-8531, Japan.

Fibrillation of the amyloid beta (Aβ) peptide has often been associated with neurodegenerative pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease. In this study we examined the influence of several potential compositions of the lipid membrane on Aβ fibrillation by using liposomes as a basic model membrane. Firstly, it was revealed that Aβ fibrillation kinetics were enhanced and had the potential to occur at a faster rate on more fluid membranes compared to solid membranes.

The study highlights the significant effects of Zn ions concentration on the optical properties of BaNiZnFeO ferrites, emphasizing the tunability of the band gap through Zn doping and explores their potential to enhance their optical properties. The barium-nickel ferrite powder, with the composition BaNiZnFeO, was synthesized using the ceramic method. The effects of Zn doping were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV‒visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy.
