Silicon wafers as semiconductors are essential components of integrated circuits in electronic devices. For this reason, modification of the silicon surface is an important factor in the manufacturing of new hybrid materials applied in micro- and nanoelectronics. Herein, copolymer brushes of hydrophilic poly(2-hydroxyethyl acrylate) (PHEA) and hydrophobic poly(-butyl acrylate) (PBA) were grafted from silicon wafers via simplified electrochemically mediated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) according to a surface-initiated approach. The syntheses of PHEA--PBA copolymers were carried out with diminished catalytic complex concentration (successively 25 and 6 ppm of Cu). In order to optimize the reaction condition, the effect of the addition of a supporting electrolyte was investigated. A controlled increase in PHEA brush thickness was confirmed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Various other parameters including contact angles and free surface energy (FSE) for the modified silicon wafer were presented. Furthermore, the effect of the presence of a sacrificial initiator in solution on the thickness of the grafted brushes was reported. Successfully fabricated inorganic-organic hybrid nanomaterials show potential application in biomedicine and microelectronics devices, e.g., biosensors.

Electrochemical reduction technology is a promising method for addressing the persistent contamination of groundwater by chlorinated hydrocarbons. Current research shows that electrochemical reductive dechlorination primarily relies on direct electron transfer (DET) and active hydrogen (H) mediated indirect electron transfer processes, thereby achieving efficient dechlorination and detoxification. This paper explores the influence of the molecular charge structure of chlorinated hydrocarbons, including chlorolefin, chloroalkanes, chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, and chloro-carboxylic acid, on reductive dechlorination from the perspective of molecular electrostatic potential and local electron affinity.

Cyclopropanes are prevalent in natural products, pharmaceuticals, and bioactive compounds, functioning as a significant structural motif. Although a series of methods have been developed for the construction of the cyclopropane skeleton, the development of a direct and efficient strategy for the rapid synthesis of cyclopropanes from bench-stable starting materials with a broad substrate scope and functional group tolerance remains challenging and highly desirable. Herein, we present an electrochemical method for the direct cyclopropanation of unactivated alkenes using active methylene compounds.

Prussian Blue (PB) is commonly incorporated into screen-printed enzymatic devices since it enables the determination of the enzymatically produced hydrogen peroxide at low potentials. Inkjet printing is gaining popularity in the development of electrochemical sensors as a substitute for screen printing. This work presents a fully inkjet-printed graphene-Prussian Blue platform, which can be paired with oxidase enzymes to prepare a biosensor of choice.

Electrochemical glucose sensor holds significant promise for the monitoring of blood glucose levels in diabetic patients. In this study, we proposed a novel electrochemical glucose sensor based on 1,10-Phenanthroline-5,6-dione (PD)/Ru(III) as a dual redox mediator. The synergistic effect of PD and Ru(III) was utilized to efficiently facilitate the electron transfer between the enzyme-active center and the electrode.
