The study aimed at detecting 13 organic acids (oxalic acid, maleic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, quinic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, isobutyric acid, and butyric acid) by establishing a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The analysis was performed using two sugar columns, i.e., SH1011 column and KC-811 column. The optimal conditions were as follows: 4 mmol/L HClO solution as the eluent with UV-visible detector (210 nm), a flow rate of 1 mL/min at the temperature of 60°C, and the injection volume at 10 L. The results showed that all the calibration curves had excellent linearity ( > 0.9991) within the test ranges. The RSD values of the thirteen analytes were lower than 2.94% at three levels, the recoveries were 91.9%-102.0%, the limit of detection (LOD) was between 0.05 and 10.63 g/mL, and the quantification (LOQ) was between 0.10 and 19.53 g/mL. Finally, the proposed methodology was successfully applied for the analysis of organic acids in the culture medium of edible fungi. In conclusion, the study findings proved that the method was sensitive, accurate, reproducible, and could be readily applied to analyze the organic acids in the samples.

Background: Canola essential oil (CEO) contains linoleic and oleic fatty acids that can inhibit the growth of pathogenic micro-organisms and alter microbial digestion to increase ruminal fermentation and nutrient utilisation.

Objectives: The study evaluated the effect of supplementing a basal goat diet with incremental doses of CEO on chemical constituents and in vitro ruminal fermentation parameters and microbial diversity.

Methods: Experimental treatments were a basal goat diet containing 0.

Lateral roots (LRs) can continuously forage water and nutrients from soil. In Arabidopsis thaliana, LR development depends on a canonical auxin signaling pathway involving the core transcription factors INDOLE-3-ACETIC ACIDs (IAAs) and AUXIN RESPONSE FACTORs (ARFs). In this study, we identified a protein, bacillolysin, secreted by the beneficial rhizobacterium Bacillus velezensis SQR9, that is able to stimulate LR formation of Arabidopsis.

The transportation and transformation of biogenic isoprene are vital for the organic carbon cycle in the troposphere. As a typical mineral with high oxidation potential, Fe-substituted cryptomelane oxidizes the surface monolayer of isoprene into formic and acetic acids, and simultaneously, the Mn ions in the structure are reduced to Mn and Mn. The flow of HO in isoprene decreases the adsorption and oxidation of isoprene significantly, even at low relative humidity (10%).

Phthalates (PAEs), which are pollutants that most easily migrate from plastic packages to edible oils, have received increasing attention. In this work, a sample preconditioning method was proposed and explored, involving a single-step extraction using a methanol and ethyl hexanoate mixed solvent, followed by clean-up with a mixed absorbent of graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) and -propyl ethylenediamine (PSA), for the determination of 18 PAEs in oil samples through GC-MS/MS analysis. The triazine ring structure and conjugated aromatic heterocyclic accumulation structure of g-CN and the amino-rich structure of PSA can provide hydrogen bonds, conjugated π-π interactions, and hydrophobic effects for the removal of interferences such as organic acids, aliphatic acids, and pigments.

The availability of water-soluble nanoparticles allows catalytic reactions to occur in highly desirable green environments. The catalytic activity and selectivity of water-soluble palladium nanoparticles capped with 6-(carboxylate)hexanethiolate (C6-PdNP) and 5-(trimethylammonio)pentanethiolate (C5-PdNP) were investigated for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol, the oxidation of α,β-conjugated aldehydes, and the C-C coupling of phenylboronic acid. The study showed that between the two PdNPs, C6-PdNP exhibits better catalytic activity for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol in the presence of sodium borohydride and the selective oxidation of conjugated aldehydes to conjugated carboxylic acids.
