Our goal is to reduce the release rate of methotrexate (MTX) and increase cell death efficiency.Carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT-COOH) were functionalized with MTX as a cytotoxic agent, FA as a targeting moiety and polyethylene amine (PEI) as a hydrophilic agent. Ultimately, MWCNT-MTX and MWCNT-MTX-PEI-FA were synthesized. Methotrexate release studies were conducted in PBS and cytotoxic studies were carried out by means of the MTT tassay. Methotrexate release studies from these two carriers demonstrated that the attachment of PEI-FA onto MWCNT-MTX reduces the release rate of methotrexate. The IC50 of MWCNT-MTX-PEI-FA and MWCNT-MTX have been calculated as follows: 9.89 ± 0.38 and 16.98 ± 1.07 µg/mL, respectively. Cytotoxic studies on MWCNT-MTX-PEI-FA and MWCNT-MTX in the presence of an IR laser showed that at high concentrations, they had similar toxicities due to the MWCNT's photothermal effect. Targeting effect studies in the presence of the IR laser on the cancer cells have shown that MWCNT-MTX-PEI-FA, MWCNT-MTX, and f-MWCNT have triggered the death of cancer cells by 55.11 ± 1.97%, 49.64 ± 2.44%, and 37 ± 0.70%, respectively. The release profile of MTX in MWCNT-MTX-PEI-FA showed that the presence of PEI acts as a barrier against release and reduces the MTX release rate. In the absence of a laser, MWCNT-MTX-PEI-FA exhibits the highest degree of cytotoxicity. In the presence of a laser, the cytotoxicity of MWCNT-MTX and MWCNT-MTX-PEI-FA has no significant difference. Targeting studies have shown that MWCNT-MTX-PEI-FA can be absorbed by cancer cells exclusively.

A low oxygen level in solid tumors is behind the modern concept of selective chemotherapy by hypoxia-activated prodrugs, such as heteroleptic complexes of transition metals (cobalt(III), iron(III) or platinum(IV)) with bi- or tetradentate ligands and an anticancer drug molecule as a co-ligand. A series of new cobalt(III) complexes [Co(LR)(esc)]ClO with esculetin (6,7-dihydroxycoumarin) and 2,2'-bipyridines (2,2'-bipy) functionalized by different substituents R were probed in the hypoxia-activated delivery of this model anticancer drug. Their combined study by cyclic voltammetry and NMR spectroscopy allowed identifying linear correlations of the electrochemical reduction potentials and the rate of the hypoxia-activated dissociation of [Co(LR)(esc)]ClO with the Hammett constants of the substituents in 2,2'-bipy ligands.

Filamentous fungi are a cornerstone in the biotechnological production of enzymes, proteins, and organic acids. However, challenges in understanding and controlling the relationship between morphology and productivity can limit their application. This study addresses these challenges using Thermothelomyces thermophilus, a promising thermophilic fungus known for the production of thermostable enzymes.

Background: This study aimed to validate the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) risk calculator for predicting outcomes in patients undergoing abdominoplasty after massive weight loss.
Methods: Patients' characteristics, pre-existing comorbidities and adverse outcomes in our department from 2013 to 2023 were collected retrospectively. Adverse events were defined according to ACS-NSQIP standards and predicted risks were calculated manually using the ACS-NSQIP risk calculator.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the effects of preoperative intracerebral hematoma volume (HVpre), hematoma volume 6-8 days post-surgery (HVpost), and the rate of hematoma volume change (HVpre-HVpost)/HVpre on the prognosis of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH).
Materials And Methods: CT imaging data from 62 aSAH patients admitted to our hospital's Neurosurgery Department between January 2022 and December 2023 were obtained, both preoperatively and 6-8 days postoperatively. The hematoma volumes were measured using 3D-Slicer.
