Electrocatalytic destruction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is an emerging approach for treatment of PFAS-contaminated water. In this study, a systematic ab initio investigation of PFAS adsorption on Ni, a widely used electrocatalyst, was conducted by means of dispersion-corrected Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. The objective of this investigation was to elucidate the adsorption characteristics and charge transfer mechanisms of different PFAS molecules on Ni surfaces.

Despite evidence indicating the presence of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in contact lenses (CL), it remains unclear whether CL use increases PFAS exposure in the general population. We aimed to determine whether CL users have higher serum concentrations of PFAS than non-users, using data of 1660 adults aged 20-39 years participating in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999-2000 and 2003-2008. We classified the individuals into CL users and non-users using the record of vision correction types during a vision test.

Background: Exposures to perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), environmentally persistent chemicals detectable in the blood of most Americans, have been associated with several health outcomes. To offer insight into their possible biologic effects, we evaluated the metabolomic correlates of circulating PFOS and PFOA among 3,647 participants in eight nested case-control serum metabolomic profiling studies from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial.

Background: Exposure to perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) has been associated with changes in insulin sensitivity and pancreatic beta-cell function in humans. Genetic predisposition to diabetes may modify these associations; however, this hypothesis has not been yet studied.
Objectives: To evaluate genetic heterogeneity as a modifier in the PFAS association with insulin sensitivity and pancreatic beta-cell function, using a targeted gene-environment (GxE) approach.
