In this study, novel ionic liquid-incorporated Zn-ion conducting polymer electrolyte membranes containing polymer matrix poly (vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP) and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate (EMITf), along with zinc trifluoromethanesulfonate Zn(Tf), are prepared and investigated. It is ascertained that the optimal membrane ILPE-Zn-4 (the mass ratio of EMITf:Zn(Tf):PVDF-HFP is 0.4:0.4:1), with abundant nanopores, exhibits a high amorphousness. At room temperature, the optimized electrolyte membrane offers a good value of ionic conductivity (~1.44 × 10 S cm), with a wide electrochemical stability window (~4.14 V). Moreover, the electrolyte membrane can sustain a high thermal decomposition temperature (~305 °C), and thus its mechanical performance is sufficient for practical applications. Accordingly, the ionic liquid-incorporated Zn-ion conducting polymer electrolyte could be a potential candidate for Zn-based energy storage applications.

The strong reactivity of water in aqueous electrolytes toward metallic zinc (Zn), especially at aggressive operating conditions, remains the fundamental obstacle to the commercialization of aqueous zinc metal batteries (AZMBs). Here, a water-immiscible ionic liquid diluent 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(fluorosulfonyl)amide (EmimFSI) is reported that can substantially suppress the water activity of aqueous electrolyte by serving as a "water pocket", enveloping the highly active H O-dominated Zn solvates and protecting them from parasitic reactions. During Zn deposition, the cation Emim and anion FSI function respectively in mitigating the tip effect and regulating the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), thereby favoring a smooth Zn deposition layer protected by inorganic species-enriched SEI featuring high uniformity and stability.

Searching for a suitable electrolyte in a lithium-ion battery is a challenging task. The electrolyte must not only be chemically and mechanically stable, but also be able to transport lithium ions efficiently. Ionic liquid incorporated into a metal-organic framework (IL@MOF) has currently emerged as an interesting class of hybrid material that could offer excellent electrochemical properties.

Among these ILs, [smim][FeCl] was used for the preparation of heterogeneous catalyst ([smim][FeCl]@NdO) by simple immobilization of IL on NdO nanoparticles. The structure of [smim][FeCl]@NdO was established by various techniques including FTIR, Raman, UV-vis DRS, powder XRD, SEM/EDX, elemental mapping, TEM, TGA, EPR and XPS analyses.
